Join Jazz in the Palm Court on Sunday, May 17 from 1–3 p.m. at the Great Park Palm Court Arts Complex, where a live performance will showcase a variety of jazz styles, from blues and swing to bebop and contemporary sounds. Bring folding chairs or blankets and enjoy a relaxed afternoon of music outdoors.
Proposal to Introduce Ranked Choice Voting in Irvine Moves Forward for Study

Irvine officials are considering a potential change to the city’s election system, with a proposal to introduce ranked choice voting as early as 2028. Under this system, voters would rank candidates in order of preference rather than selecting just one, and votes would be counted in rounds until a candidate receives a majority. The City Council voted 4–3 to have staff draft an ordinance and provide a cost analysis, with further discussion expected in June. While some officials say the system could give voters more flexibility and reduce strategic voting, others have raised concerns about possible voter confusion and the financial impact, especially as the city faces a projected budget shortfall.

UCI Health Expert Emphasizes the Benefits of Improving Sleep for Long-Term Health

About one in three U.S. adults do not get enough sleep, according to the National Institutes of Health, increasing their risk for serious health issues. KyoungBin Im of UCI Health explains that chronic sleep deprivation is linked to conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, and even dementia. While more sleep centers are helping identify disorders like insomnia, sleep apnea, and narcolepsy, many cases still go undiagnosed, highlighting the importance of recognizing and addressing sleep health.
