Orange County Soccer Club Secures Future in Irvine with New Agreement Until 2033

The Orange County Soccer Club (OCSC), following a successful season and a second seed in the USL Championship playoffs, secured a deal with the Irvine City Council to stay in Irvine until 2033. The club has been based in Irvine for a decade, playing at the "Champ" stadium since 2017, with a total of $260,000 in use fees. The stadium seats around 5,500. OCSC won the USL Championship in 2021 and consistently draws large crowds, selling out the last five games of this season. The new agreement allows OCSC to sell ads and sponsorships, keeping 80% of the revenue, while the city gets 20%. All promotions must be city-approved. The deal lasts five years, with a potential five-year extension. Both the OCSC President and Irvine Mayor expressed positivity and commitment to the community and sports culture through this agreement.

Irvine SWAT Team Enhances Readiness with Joint Training Session and New Rescue Vehicle

The Irvine Police Department's SWAT Team and the Orange County Fire Authority conducted a joint training session, focusing on critical incident responses and testing a new multi-functional rescue vehicle. The training ensures the safety of the city through advanced preparation and equipment. Thanks to OCFA for facilitating this essential training day.

Meet the Tarantula Hawk: Your Guide to One of Nature's Most Fascinating Insects

The tarantula hawk, known for its painful sting and impressive hunting skills, is a sight to behold with its iridescent blue body and bright orange wings. Mainly found in the southwest U.S. and Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks, it preys on tarantulas, paralyzing them for its larvae to feed on. While it poses a significant threat to tarantulas, it is generally docile towards humans, though caution is advised due to its painful sting. UC Irvine Pulls Off Stunning Overtime Victory Against Undefeated UC Davis in Water Polo Showdown

UC Irvine (No. 9/9) triumphed over previously unbeaten UC Davis (No. 7/7) in a thrilling 13-12 overtime water polo match, marking a significant upset. The goalkeepers played a crucial role, making save after save throughout the game, especially in the 4:51 minutes of overtime. Jack Stevens scored the decisive goal for UC Irvine in the final moments of the game. Luka Krstic was a standout player, scoring four goals and providing three assists. This victory ensures UC Irvine's first winning season in conference play since 2017, and it's their first win over UC Davis since 2014. The team is now poised to potentially win their first regular season title since 2000. Their next challenge is a game against No. 1 ranked UCLA on November 3.

UC Irvine Narrowly Defeated by Cal Poly in Five-Set Thriller Despite Riedl's 23 Kills

Despite Hunter Riedl's career-high 23 kills and a strong team performance, UC Irvine lost to Cal Poly in a close 3-2 match at Crawford Hall on Saturday. Riedl also contributed with four digs and three block assists. Cal Poly's record improved to 15-9 (9-3 in the Big West), while UCI's record dropped to 7-16 (5-7 in the Big West). Both teams had strong moments, with UCI out-hitting Cal Poly and tying their season-high in blocks, but it wasn't enough to secure the win. UCI is now 0-5 in five-set matches this season and will next play at UC Davis on November 2.
