Irvine Voters to Decide on Ranked Choice Voting This November

Irvine voters are expected to decide this November whether the city should adopt ranked choice voting for future City Council elections. Under the proposed system, voters would rank candidates by preference, with votes redistributed in rounds until a candidate earns a majority if no one wins outright. The proposal was initially advanced by Councilmembers Kathleen Treseder, Melinda Liu, Betty Martinez Franco, and William Go without a public vote. Following community feedback and public support for a citywide decision, the City Council later directed the City Attorney to prepare a ballot measure for the November 3 election, with additional council action anticipated in the coming weeks.
Irvine Police Seek Volunteers for Disaster Emergency Communications Team

The Irvine Police Department's Irvine Disaster Emergency Communications (IDEC) team is seeking volunteers to help support the city's emergency preparedness efforts. Made up of more than 50 licensed amateur radio operators, IDEC provides backup communications during disasters when traditional systems fail, connecting public safety agencies, evacuation centers, schools, and medical facilities. Members train regularly, assist with community events and emergency drills, and play an important role in Irvine's disaster response plan. General meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month.
Woodbridge to Celebrate 50 Years with Expanded Fourth of July Festivities

Woodbridge Village Association will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026 alongside the United States' 250th anniversary, marking two historic milestones at once. To honor the occasion, Woodbridge will host an expanded Fourth of July Celebration on Saturday, July 4, featuring a larger and more festive community event that celebrates the neighborhood's five decades of history, traditions, and service while recognizing America's 250 years of independence. More information is available at the event website.
Beatles Tribute Concert Brings Classic Hits to Mike Ward Community Park

Enjoy an evening of live music at Mike Ward Community Park as a Beatles tribute band brings the group's iconic hits to life. The concert begins at 5:30 p.m., and guests are welcome to bring picnic-style meals or purchase snacks from local food trucks. Low-back chairs and blankets are encouraged, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.

IUSD Shares Summer Safety Tips for Water, Bikes, and Sun

Summer is a time for swimming, biking, and enjoying the outdoors, but a few simple precautions can help keep everyone safe. IUSD is sharing these reminders to help families have a fun and worry-free season.
Water Safety
Always provide active adult supervision around water.
Use barriers to prevent children from accessing pools unsupervised.
Enroll children in swim lessons and don't rely solely on flotation devices.
Bike & E-Bike Safety
Wear a properly fitted helmet.
Make sure bikes are in good working condition and fit the rider.
Follow traffic laws and use hand signals.
Lock bikes when unattended.
Register bikes with Irvine Police to aid theft recovery.
Sun Safety
Apply sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher daily.
Reapply sunscreen every two hours.
Seek shade whenever possible.
Wear protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses.

How to Care for a Common Cold at Home

Most common colds improve on their own within 7–10 days, and supportive care at home is often the best treatment.
Get plenty of rest, drink fluids to stay hydrated, and eat nourishing foods to support recovery.
Over-the-counter medications such as decongestants, cough suppressants, antihistamines, and pain relievers can help ease symptoms.
Using a humidifier, warm fluids, saline nasal spray, and throat lozenges may provide additional comfort.
Antibiotics do not treat viral colds and are only used if a bacterial infection is suspected.
Seek medical care if you develop a fever above 101.3°F lasting more than three days, shortness of breath, wheezing, severe sore throat or sinus pain, ear pain, persistent cough, severe body aches, or unusual drowsiness.
Practice good hygiene, including frequent handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes, to help prevent spreading germs to others.
