Red Flag Warning in Effect: Take These Steps to Stay Safe in Irvine

The City of Irvine prioritizes community safety through emergency preparedness and partners with the Orange County Fire Authority for enhanced response capabilities. With a Red Flag Warning in effect until the end of today, January 21 at 10 p.m., residents are urged to:

Check evacuation zones using the City's map.
Emergency alerts will link to real-time evacuation maps, and a unique Hi/Lo siren will signal evacuation needs.Learn more about emergency preparedness here.
Irvine to Launch Independent Public Library System, Invites Community Input

The City of Irvine is transitioning its library services from the County of Orange to the newly established Irvine Public Library system to provide a more localized and community-focused approach. Residents are encouraged to participate in informational meetings to offer input on the development of the new library system.
The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 30, from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. at the Quail Hill Community Center, 39 Shady Canyon Drive.
Currently, the Heritage Park Library, University Park Library, and Katie Wheeler Library are operated by the Orange County Public Library.
This transition was approved by the Irvine City Council on July 23, 2024, and aims to create accessible, dynamic library spaces that support civic engagement and educational opportunities.

Celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Wood Snake Festival on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 12 PM to 3 PM at The Market Place at the courtyard near Mathis Home in Irvine.

Join the Fun! Westparkโs Kids Run the OC Program Starts February 4

Westparkโs Kids Run the OC (KROC) Program is a fun training initiative for 1stโ6th graders promoting fitness and combating childhood obesity through games improving speed, agility, and coordination.
Led by OC Marathon-certified coaches, students accumulate 25.2 miles of activity, finishing their marathon's final mile on May 3, 2025, at the OC Fair & Event Center.
Sessions run Tuesdays and Thursdays (7:30โ8:00 AM) from 2/4 to 5/1 at Westpark.
Students must register for both Westparkโs program and Race Day.

Between January 13โ19, 2025, Irvine Animals celebrated the adoption of 5 dogs (Coffee, Gale, Jade, Ronnie, Shadow), 12 cats (Azul, Donatella, Frito, Kuma, Leonardo, Mandarin, Michelangelo, Oliver, Oreo, Pierogi, Raphael, Starlight), and 1 rabbit (Biscotti). UC Irvine Basketball Extends Home Win Streak to 20 with 101-71 Victory Over Cal Poly

UC Irvine dominated Cal Poly with a 101-71 victory at Bren Events Center, improving to 17-2 overall and 7-0 in Big West play. All five starters scored in double figures, with Devin Tillis leading with 21 points and seven rebounds. The Anteaters extended their home win streak to 20 games, setting a school record. UCI shot 53.1% from the floor, 47.4% from three, and 92.3% from the free-throw line. Key contributions included Bent Leuchten's 15 points and 8 rebounds, and Myles Cheโs game-high six assists. UCI next faces UC Riverside on Jan. 23, at 7:00 PM.
