IPD Investigate Fatal Traffic Collision at Harvard Avenue and Paseo Westpark

An 83-year-old Tustin resident, Effat Setayeshgar Tinoosh, passed away following a two-vehicle collision at Harvard Avenue and Paseo Westpark in Irvine on Thursday, October 15, at approximately 9:06 p.m. The collision involved a 2009 Toyota Corolla and a 2023 Mercedes S680, both of which sustained significant damage. Tinoosh, who was driving the Toyota, was transported to Orange County Global Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The Mercedes driver, 28-year-old Adam Gabriel Canchola of La Quinta, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The Irvine Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate the incident, and additional charges may be considered. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Gallegos at [email protected].

Everyday Habits That May Contribute to Constipation

Constipation can be uncomfortable, and certain everyday habits may make it worse. Here are seven things to avoid to help keep your digestion healthy:

  • Processed Foods: Limit fatty, low-fiber foods and choose fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

  • Too Much Alcohol or Caffeine: Stay hydrated with water to support digestion.

  • High-Lactose Dairy: Milk and ice cream may cause bloating if you're lactose intolerant.

  • Lack of Exercise: Walking and other physical activities can help stimulate bowel movements.

  • Certain Supplements: Iron and calcium may cause constipation. Consult your doctor before making changes.

  • Frequent Pain Relievers: Ibuprofen and naproxen may contribute to constipation in some people.

  • Overusing Laxatives: Follow directions and avoid prolonged use without medical advice.

New Rattlesnake Safety Signs Added at Great Park Trails

With warm weather keeping rattlesnakes active in Southern California, the City of Irvine has installed new warning signs at Great Park Trails to remind visitors to stay alert. Similar signs are already posted throughout Irvine’s open space areas. Although rattlesnake bites are rare, residents are encouraged to follow these safety tips:

  • Stay on designated trails and remain aware of your surroundings.

  • Watch your step and avoid placing your hands near rocks or brush.

  • Keep dogs on a leash while enjoying the trails.

  • Give snakes plenty of space and never attempt to approach, touch, or move them.

  • If bitten, remain calm, stay where you are, and call 911 immediately. Do not apply ice or heat, cut the wound, suck out venom, use a tourniquet, or consume medications, alcohol, or caffeine unless directed by medical professionals.

How to Keep Your Pets Cool and Safe When Home Alone

Keeping furry friends safe and comfortable during hot weather is important, especially when they’re home alone. A few simple precautions can help ensure your pets stay cool, happy, and well cared for while you're away. Here are some tips:

  • Keep Fresh Water Available: Make sure your pets have plenty of clean drinking water, both indoors and outdoors.

  • Keep Your Home Cool: Close blinds and curtains to block out heat, and use fans to help improve airflow.

  • Provide Plenty of Shade: Give outdoor pets a comfortable, shaded spot to relax throughout the day.

  • Protect Their Paws: Offer cool surfaces like natural grass or soil, as pavement and artificial turf can get very hot.

  • Avoid Tying Up Dogs: Keep dogs free to move safely between shaded areas and drinking water.

  • Keep Up with Grooming: Regular brushing helps remove loose fur and keeps your pets more comfortable.

  • Never Leave Pets in Cars: Even on mild days, parked cars can heat up quickly and become dangerous for pets.
