Irvine to Build New $100 Million Indoor Gym with Multi-Sport Courts

Irvine is set to build a new indoor gym in the Irvine Business Complex, with the city council unanimously approving $100 million for the project. The facility will include courts for basketball, volleyball, and badminton, plus community spaces. The design is still flexible, with further community input needed. The gym is expected to open by 2026, addressing the city's current shortage of indoor sports facilities. Residents, particularly badminton players, have pushed for dedicated courts, which the council is considering a priority in the final design.

Irvine High Football Prepares for 2024 Season with New League Challenges

Irvine High School's football team had a standout 2023 season, going undefeated to win the Pacific Hills League title and the Dennis Toohey Fence Post Trophy. Despite finishing 7-4, they were eliminated in the first round of the CIF Division 8 playoffs by Jurupa Valley. In 2024, Irvine faces new challenges in the highly competitive Iota League. Coach Tom Ricci is optimistic about the team’s talent but concerned about depth due to the school’s smaller size. Key players include Deacon Moss, Brandon “Figgy” Figueroa, and Khoa Bùi, who is returning strong after an injury. The season kicks off on August 23 against Northwood at Portola.
