Irvine to Break Ground on First-Ever Public Gymnasium June 10

Join the City of Irvine for the groundbreaking of its first-ever public gymnasium, the Irvine Fieldhouse, on Tuesday, June 10 from 9–10 a.m. at 17300 Red Hill Avenue.

  • This 110,000-square-foot indoor facility will feature 10 multi-use courts, 10 badminton courts, a multipurpose room, food court, offices, and 369 parking spaces, all on a 7.3-acre site.

  • The event includes a short speaking program, a ceremonial groundbreaking, and a preview of the gym’s design.

New Pump Track Now Open at Great Park, Celebration on June 7

The City of Irvine has opened a new temporary pump track at the Great Park Promenade near the Carousel, available daily from 7 a.m. to dusk through June 15. A free Pump Track Celebration will take place Saturday, June 7, from noon to 4 p.m., featuring live music by Head Wide Open (12:30–1:30 p.m.), games, crafts, face painting, community booths, Skate Dogs ramp demos, and food trucks like The Layover.

Join a hands-on sourdough bread-making class at the Woodbridge Community Center on Tuesday, June 10, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. (Course Code: EATS-06-000).

  • Open to ages 15 and up, this 90-minute class covers the essentials of sourdough baking—from starter to shaping—and even includes how to make homemade butter.

Woodbridge Village’s Junior Lifeguard Program Returns June 9 for Ages 8–12

The Junior Lifeguard Program by Woodbridge Village Association is open to kids ages 8–12 and runs Monday–Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stone Creek Swim Club.

  • Sessions are available weekly from June 9 to July 25 for $169 per session.

  • Activities include swimming, jogging, aquatic games, and hands-on training in lifeguarding skills such as CPR, First Aid, and water safety (no certifications issued).

  • A swim test is required on the first day. Kids will also walk or jog between Stone Creek and North Lake Beach Club during the program.

  • A pizza lunch is included on the last day of each session.

UCI Health Brings Senior Safety Tips to Trabucco Center on June 12

Join UCI Health for a free informational session at the Trabucco Senior Center on June 12 from 10–11 a.m. to learn when to visit urgent care vs. the ER, how to respond to a fall or sudden illness, and get tips on choosing the right care. Hit the Hills This Sunday: Challenging 6-Mile Trail Run at Bommer Canyon Set for June 8

Join the City of Irvine for a challenging 6-mile trail run through Bommer Canyon on Sunday, June 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. This advanced-level (difficulty 5) run includes 2,500 feet of elevation gain, rugged terrain, and scenic views. It's designed for experienced runners and fast-paced hikers; bring water, trail shoes, and gear, and register in advance.

Irvine Animal Care Center Seeks Foster Volunteers for Kittens and Puppies

The Irvine Animal Care Center is seeking foster volunteers to care for young kittens, puppies, and baby rabbits that are too young for adoption or recovering from medical treatment.

  • These animals need quiet, loving temporary homes until they’re old and healthy enough to be adopted.

  • Fostering typically lasts from a few days to several weeks, and the center provides all training, supplies, food, and veterinary care.

  • Foster families play a critical role in saving lives by helping fragile animals thrive outside the shelter environment.

UC Irvine’s Nolan Flexen Named to U.S. Roster for 2025 Volleyball Nations League

UC Irvine outside hitter Nolan Flexen has been named to the 30-man U.S. Men's National Team roster for the 2025 Volleyball Nations League (VNL).

  • Head coach Karch Kiraly will select 14 players for each VNL stop—Brazil (June 11–15), Illinois (June 25–29), and Japan (July 16–20), with finals in China (July 30–Aug. 3).

  • Flexen is one of seven athletes with prior senior National Team experience in NORCECA events.

  • The U.S. is currently ranked No. 3 globally and has earned four VNL medals, including silvers in 2019, 2022, and 2023.

University High Softball Tops Marquez 5-3 to Advance in CIF Regionals


After a weather delay, University High School's softball team defeated Marquez 5-3 in the CIF So Cal Division IV Regional opener on Wednesday, advancing to the semifinals. Behind standout performances from pitcher Carson Cruz and second baseman Leighton Lee, the Trojans used aggressive small ball tactics and strong team energy to secure the win. Coach Merissa Guzman praised her scholar-athletes for balancing finals week with playoff pressure.

Suspect Arrested in Irvine Burglary Case Following Public Tips


Back in January, Irvine Police asked for help identifying a burglary suspect. Thanks to public tips, detectives located and arrested 40-year-old Michael James Foskett of Aliso Viejo in Lake Forest. He’s now in custody for burglary and grand theft. The department thanks the community for its support.
