UC Irvine Admits Record Number of In-State Students for Fall 2024
The University of California, Irvine has offered a record number of admissions for Fall 2024, with over 19,000 California high school graduates and nearly 9,000 community college students receiving offers, an increase from last year. UC Irvine met its goal of sustained growth, offering admission to more than 45,000 first-year and transfer students. The university's strong reputation, including top rankings in public university lists and social mobility, attracts students. Final enrollment numbers will be available after the school year begins.

The Grocery Outlet team at Woodbridge Village is incredibly grateful to their customers and community for their support in the 2024 Independence From Hunger food drive. They are thrilled to announce that they exceeded their $16,500 goal by raising $21,939. All funds will go to the Families Forward food pantry. Irvine Animal Care Center Launches Annual Photo Fundraiser
The Irvine Animal Care Center's annual Photo Fundraiser is open for entries from August 1 to 31. Submit a photo of your pet for a $25 fee, and with at least five votes, your pet's picture will feature in the 2025 wall calendar. Each $1 vote supports the Centerโs work for animals in need. UC Irvine Menโs Golf Announces 2024-25 Tournament Schedule
UC Irvine men's golf has announced its 2024-25 schedule, beginning in October. Head coach Paul Smolinski highlighted the strong tournament lineup, featuring iconic courses like Monterey, Maui, Torrey Pines, and Pasatiempo. The Anteaters will kick off the fall season in Corvallis, Oregon, followed by tournaments in Stockton, Seaside, and Lahaina. The spring season starts at home with the Orange County Collegiate Classic and includes events in Palm Desert, San Diego, and Maricopa. The season concludes with the Western Intercollegiate and the Big West Championship, where the winner advances to the NCAA Regional in May.

Irvine Valley's Dominic Sarmiento Commits to De La Salle University
in Manila
Irvine Valley freshman frontcourt player Dominic Sarmiento has committed to De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines. The 6-8 Sarmiento, from Alameda High, played in 15 games for the Lasers, helping them achieve a 17-12 overall record and an 8-8 conference mark, leading to a third-place finish and a trip to the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs in 2023-24. De La Salle recently won its first PinoyLiga Collegiate Cup Championship in June.

Beckman High Football Team Prepares for 2024 Season in New Lambda League
Beckman High Schoolโs football team, led by Coach Marcello Giuliano, is gearing up for the 2024 season after a successful 2023 run. The team is transitioning from the Pacific Coast League to the new Lambda League, facing teams like Fullerton, Marina, Sunny Hills, Valencia, and Kennedy. Beckman finished 8-3 last year and aims to improve in the playoffs this season. The team has a strong roster, including many seniors and returning players, with key contributors on both offense and defense. The Patriots' 2024 schedule includes games against Santa Ana Valley, San Marcos, Canyon, Portola, Woodbridge, Fullerton, Sunny Hills, Kennedy, Valencia, and Marina.

Irvine Police Arrest Two in Connection with Stolen Vehicle and Burglary
An Irvine Police officer on the Directed Enforcement Team spotted three individuals near a hotel walking away from a car without a front license plate. The car was found to be stolen. Adrian Rodrigo Munoz, 32, of Buena Park, was detained, while Jesus Frankie Borrell, 42, of Anaheim, fled but was later caught. The investigation uncovered stolen property, multiple victims' IDs, credit cards, gun ammunition, and narcotics. Both were charged with various crimes, including possession of a stolen vehicle and identity theft. Munoz had four felony warrants.
