Irvine Sees Drop in Crime but Rise in E-Bike Collisions, Police Urge Community Vigilance
Mid-year crime stats show a 22% drop in property crime and a 4% drop in violent crime.
However, 44% of residential burglaries occurred in open garages.
Bicycle collisions have risen, with 74% involving 13-15-year-old e-bike riders. IPD is enhancing e-bike safety through education and enforcement, urging parents to ensure street-legal and safe riding.
The community's role in reporting suspicious activity is crucial for public safety.

Protect Your Skin from Sunburn: Tips for Year-Round Sun Safety
Sunshine provides essential vitamin D but can also cause painful sunburns, even on cloudy days. Sunburns, resulting from excessive UV radiation, can damage skin cells and increase the risk of skin cancer. UV rays include UVA, which penetrates deeply causing aging and immune suppression, and UVB, which causes sunburns by damaging outer skin layers.
Protect yourself with SPF 30+ broad-spectrum sunscreen, reapplying every two hours or after swimming. Wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and stay hydrated.
For children and pets, use appropriate sun protection. Maintain healthy skin year-round and contact Family Care Centers Medical Group for support.
