Join a community tour to learn about water recycling and promote environmental responsibility at IRWD. The 3-mile walking tour includes various educational activities and a lunch, with required registration for free participation for IRWD customers. Event is on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Michelson Water Recycling Plant, Irvine. Wear comfortable shoes.

Irvine’s Own Karina Jadhav Shines on the Golf Course and in the Classroom, Winning Prestigious Junior Golf Tournament and UNICEF Award

Karina Jadhav, an 8th grader from Irvine and a student at Pacific Academy, won the 2023 Tiger Woods Junior Golf Invitational Tournament at Pebble Beach, overcoming a 6-hole deficit. She's the youngest in her division and also excels academically, participating in Model UN and winning an award for her work with UNICEF at the UN Headquarters.

Luke Cattau and Susan Shelton are leading a project to create 100 fleece tie blankets and appreciation cards/posters for the 2/11 Battalion at Camp Pendleton, hosted at Crean Lutheran High School. A Serve Day rally will take place from 7:30-8:45 AM at Free Chapel in Irvine, CA, with free coffee, breakfast burritos, a photobooth, and guest speakers including Love Irvine's President, Curtis Drever. Heroic Firefighters Perform Midnight Extrication on 22 Freeway

Firefighters responded to a "Traffic Collision Cut & Rescue" on the 22 freeway in Garden Grove, where they performed a technical extrication and life-saving treatments on a trapped patient. Multiple traffic lanes were closed for safety, and the patient was quickly transported to a local trauma center.

Pre-registration is required for events led by IRC-Certified Volunteers, closing at 4 p.m. the day before the event. Glo Hinojosa Shines in Soccer Championship, Secures Sgt. Pepperoni’s Anteater of the Week Title

Senior Glo Hinojosa was named Sgt. Pepperoni’s Anteater of the Week for her exceptional performance in the Big West Women's Soccer Championship's first round. Hinojosa made four crucial saves for the Anteaters, including a significant block in the 75th minute, maintaining a scoreless game during regulation time. The game proceeded to penalty kicks, where Hinojosa's diving stop helped the Anteaters secure a 4-1 shootout victory. This match marked Hinojosa's 28th career shutout and second career shootout win, bringing her total saves to 216.

UC Irvine Men's Golf Holds Strong in Top-Five at Kapolei Invitational; Final Round Set for Thursday

In the second round of the 19-team Kapolei Invitational, UC Irvine men's golf maintained a top-five position, currently ranking fifth with a score of 25-under 551. Loyola Marymount leads the tournament at 36-under. Tony Hendricks (LMU) and Kyle Dougherty (UC San Diego) are tied for first individually at 12-under 132. UC Irvine's Jason Tang is in close contention, tied for third at 11-under 133. Other notable performances from UC Irvine include Yaoting Zou (tied for 24th), Darien Zhao (tied for 31st), Rei Harashima (tied for 55th), and Jin Nakao. The final round will commence Thursday at 11 a.m. PDT.

UC Irvine Dominates in 4-1 Penalty Shootout, Advancing to Big West Semifinals Against Long Beach State

UC Irvine's women's soccer team progressed to the Big West Semifinals with a 4-1 penalty shootout victory over Long Beach State, following a 0-0 draw. The match was intense with numerous shots on goal, but neither team could score, leading to overtime and eventually a shootout. Glo Hinojosa, UCI's goalkeeper, played a crucial role with key saves, contributing to her 28th career shutout. The 'Eaters now advance with a 6-7-6 record, extending their unbeaten streak against Long Beach State to six matches. Their next game is at Titan Stadium against the No. 1-seed Titans.

Five Anteaters Clinch Coveted Spots in 2023 All-Big West Honors

In 2023, five Anteaters earned All-Big West honors, with three players receiving the honor for the third time, one for the second time, and one for the first time. The team, which reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen the previous year without any First Team honors, secured three First Team honors this year. Tati Fung made her first appearance with a standout performance, Alyssa Moore and Kiera Smeenge earned First Team honors, Glo Hinojosa was named to the Second Team, and Gianna Creighton received Honorable Mention, marking her third All-Big West appearance.

Their next conference match is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. against Saddleback, as they lead the conference by one match.
