Irvine’s National Choreographers Initiative Celebrates 20 Years: Join a Special Anniversary Performance

The National Choreographers Initiative (NCI) celebrates 20 years of fostering new dance works under the guidance of artistic director Molly Lynch. Each July in Irvine, four choreographers and 15-16 dancers come together for three intense weeks to develop new ballets. These creations, showcased at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, offer a rare glimpse into the creative process. NCI emphasizes experimentation and innovation without the pressure of perfection, enabling choreographers to explore and create freely. This year's chosen choreographers, selected from 104 applicants, bring diverse styles that promise an engaging performance. The initiative, which started in 2004, has significantly influenced the ballet world, inspiring similar programs and fostering networking opportunities for dancers and choreographers. Notably, several past participants have advanced to prominent roles in ballet companies, showcasing NCI's impact on their careers. The 20th anniversary performance is scheduled for July 27 at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, with tickets available online.

Dr. Lin's development includes the UCEye Bottle Identifier app, which helps patients recognize their eye medications. Dr. Browne is creating 3D eye models using ultrasound and AI, enabling better monitoring of retinal issues and other conditions. Additionally, AI is being used to enhance surgical outcomes by improving visualization and developing surgery models. Both doctors emphasize AI's growing role in improving diagnostic accuracy and efficiency in ophthalmology.

Enhance Your Garden with Aromatic Native Plants

Flowers attract pollinators not just with their colors but also with their unique scents. Each floral scent is distinct and adds a sensory layer to gardens, ranging from sweet to woodsy. California native plants offer various fragrances to enhance your garden experience. Favorites include Cleveland sage for its intense fragrance, mock orange for its sweet blooms, brickellbush for its powerful evening scent, and woolly bluecurls for its sage-like aroma. Plant these near paths or doors to enjoy their scents as you pass by. For more info, visit RightScapeResources.com, calscape.org, or cnps.org.
