Extreme Heat Warning Followed by Heat Advisory in Irvine Through Thursday

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect in Irvine through Wednesday, September 9, at 8 p.m., followed by a Heat Advisory through Thursday, September 10, at 8 p.m. City of Irvine facilities are open as cooling centers for residents and their pets. Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of water, limit strenuous outdoor activity, wear lightweight clothing and sun protection, check on those more vulnerable to heat, and not leave behind children or pets in parked vehicles.

Join the City of Irvine for the sixth annual Mid-Autumn Festival on Friday, September 25, from 5–9:30 p.m. at the Great Park. This free, family-friendly celebration of the traditional Moon Festival will feature live performances, cultural displays, hands-on crafts, food, and activities highlighting East and Southeast Asian traditions.

IUSD Students Named Among Top 300 Junior Innovators Nationwide

Irvine Unified School District students have been named among the top 300 junior innovators nationwide in the Thermo Fisher Scientific competition. Selected from nearly 2,000 entries, the students advanced from the IUSD Science Fair to the County Science Fair before reaching the national competition.

Join a Morning of Habitat Restoration at Irvine Regional Park, Sep. 12

Volunteers are invited to help restore the Habitat Adventure Trail at Irvine Regional Park on Saturday, September 12, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Activities include removing invasive plants, clearing debris, trimming shrubs and preparing areas for new native plants. The event and parking are free for volunteers, with tools and gloves available.

Irvine Animal Care Center Celebrates 11 Pet Adoptions

From August 31–September 6, the Irvine Animal Care Center celebrated the adoption of 1 dog, Larry, and 10 cats: Berlioz, Gracie, Layne, Peter, Ragnar, Rollo, Swift, Thomas, Timber, and Toulouse. The center also sent one pigeon to a rescue and reunited two dogs and two cats with their owners.

Irvine Police Arrest Two Women Suspected in CVS Cosmetic Thefts

Irvine Police arrested two Los Angeles County women suspected of stealing more than $2,000 in cosmetics from a CVS in Quail Hill on August 19. Detectives later located the pair during another alleged theft at a CVS in Ladera Ranch, where more than $4,000 in cosmetics were recovered following a short foot pursuit. Police said both women also had outstanding warrants related to transnational organized crime and were booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of commercial burglary.
