Irvine Police Investigate Fatal Crash at Campus & Turtle Rock

On Feb. 20, a fatal single-vehicle crash occurred at 3:34 p.m. at Campus Dr. and Turtle Rock Dr. in Irvine. A 2022 Chevrolet Equinox SUV rolled over after hitting the curb. The driver, who was experiencing a medical emergency, was transported to the hospital but did not survive. IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating. Anyone with information can contact Detective Josh Balos at 949-724-7024.

Inside Irvine PD: 10 Weeks of Hands-On Training – Apply by March 31

The Irvine Police Department is hosting an in-person Community Police Academy (CPA) from April 3 to June 5, every Thursday from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at the Irvine Police Department.

  • This 10-week program offers community members a chance to engage with IPD personnel and learn about traffic enforcement, emergency response, special assignments (Detectives, K9s, SWAT), and more through classroom instruction, hands-on activities, and live demonstrations.

  • Ideal for those interested in law enforcement careers, the academy provides an inside look at an officer’s role. Limited spots available—apply by March 31 at cityofirvine.org.

Bridge Maintenance Begins Feb. 24, Expected to Finish by Mid-April

Bridge maintenance begins today, February 24, with work on Jeffrey Rd and Irvine Blvd scheduled weekdays from 9 AM to 3 PM, and work on Culver Dr and Alton Pkwy from 9 PM to 5 AM. The project is expected to wrap up by mid-April.

Irvine Animal Care Center’s Foster Donation Drive kicks off March 1–31, collecting essential supplies like formula, food, and nursing kits to support vulnerable puppies, kittens, and recovering animals.

UC Irvine Basketball Tops Cal State Bakersfield 73-64

UC Irvine secured a 73-64 win over Cal State Bakersfield, dominating the boards 42-29. Jurian Dixon led UCI with 16 points, six rebounds, and a career-high five assists, while Bent Leuchten recorded his 12th double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds). UCI now has 11 road wins, tied for most in the nation. The Anteaters overcame a halftime deficit with a strong second-half surge, including key plays from Myles Che, Devin Tillis, and Justin Hohn. This marks UCI’s ninth consecutive win over CSUB. Up next, the Anteaters face Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in Titan Gym.

Irvine Valley Men's Volleyball Sweeps Santa Monica, Improves to 6-1

No. 5 Irvine Valley dominated Santa Monica in a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-18, 25-21) at home, improving to 6-1 overall and securing their third consecutive sweep. The Lasers started strong, building a big lead in the first set and closing it out with a Spencer York kill. The second set was more competitive, but IVC pulled away with York sealing the win. The third set was a battle, with IVC rallying from behind before taking control late. Freshman Caleb Manea led with 15 kills (.636 hitting percentage) and eight digs, while Kaufman (9 kills, 2 blocks), York (8 kills, 7 digs), and Joshua Damianopoulos (7 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks) contributed. Setter Bryce Nohava had 34 assists, and libero Cage Gonzalez tallied 11 digs.
