Why did the hawk not want to go to school?
Because he felt too hawk-ward around other birds.
We hope this joke brings some laughter to your day! 😁
Airport Fire Contained by 31%, Ortega Highway Now Open
Fire crews have made significant progress on the Airport Fire, which remains at 23,519 acres and is 31% contained. Mild weather has helped crews improve firebreaks and reinforce edges. Firefighters are also extinguishing hot spots and mopping up, with support from aircraft. Ortega Highway, connecting Orange County and Lake Elsinore, has reopened, but drivers are urged to proceed cautiously as crews continue working near the highway and nearby access roads.

Together for a Cure: Raising Awareness and Hope During Blood Cancer Awareness Month
September marks Blood Cancer Awareness Month, a global initiative to raise awareness about cancers affecting the blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic system.
Understanding blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma is key, as early diagnosis improves outcomes.
This awareness month highlights the importance of recognizing symptoms, building support networks for patients, and driving research and funding.
Common symptoms include fatigue, frequent infections, and easy bruising, while risk factors may include radiation exposure and genetic conditions.
To participate, you can:
Volunteer your time at blood cancer organizations or events.
Participate in fundraising events like charity walks and runs.
Donate blood or register as a bone marrow donor to help patients.
Educate yourself and others about symptoms and early detection.
Irvine Ranch’s Hidden Wildlife: New Study Sheds Light on Horned Lizards
As summer ends, so does a research project on the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks, where a Master’s student, Kevin Donnelly, collaborated with the Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC) to assess changes in horned lizard populations and habitat quality. Under the guidance of Nathan Gregory, a professor and IRC’s Senior VP, Kevin conducted surveys at 11 sites, revisiting a 1990s study for comparison. Initial findings show lizards at six sites, and unlike in the 1990s, no invasive Argentine ants were found. Kevin will present his findings as part of his master’s program, with further analysis underway.
