OC High School Football Begins New Era with League Restructuring for Competitive Balance

This week marks a significant shift for Orange County high school football as most teams begin competing in new leagues under a plan aimed at achieving competitive equity. Games are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 3, and Friday, Oct. 4. The new structure will follow a two-year cycle, using power ratings from CalPreps.com based on the past two seasons to place 69 teams into 12 leagues. Top-rated teams in the Alpha League include Mission Viejo, San Clemente, Edison, and Los Alamitos, while Trinity League teams remain unaffected. A full schedule will be released later, but notable games include Villa Park vs. Yorba Linda (Thursday), Western vs. Capistrano Valley, and Irvine vs. Santa Ana.
