Irvine Library Transition: Temporary Closures Ahead of August 4 Reopening

As Irvine transitions to its new Public Library system, University Park and Heritage Park Libraries will have reduced hours until May 15, then close from May 16–June 30.
But don’t worry—this summer, Irvine Public Libraries will offer free events for all ages to keep the community engaged.
The libraries are set to reopen under City of Irvine management on August 4.

Firefighters Contain Third-Alarm Blaze in Irvine; Evacuations Successful, No Injuries

A major fire broke out Saturday afternoon at a commercial building on the 1700 block of Kettering Street in Irvine, prompting a third alarm and road closures on Alton Parkway and Aston Street. All personnel inside were safely evacuated due to the fire’s severity. The Orange County Fire Authority, with assistance from Costa Mesa, Newport Beach fire departments, and Irvine Police, brought the fire under control by 7:11 p.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains unknown.

4 Essential Lifestyle Changes for a Stronger, Healthier Heart

To support heart health and reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease, UCI Health physicians recommend focusing on four essential lifestyle habits:
Healthy Nutrition: Follow a Mediterranean-style diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy. Limit salt, added sugars, processed foods, and unhealthy fats.
Regular Exercise: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity per week—like brisk walking—to help lower the risk of coronary artery disease.
Quality Sleep: Do your best to get 7–9 hours of restful sleep each night. Poor sleep and insomnia are strongly linked to increased heart attack risk, especially in women.
Routine Health Check-ups: Stay on top of screenings like cholesterol and blood sugar tests, and communicate any health changes with your provider.

Hike Through Time: Fossils, Fault Lines, and Wildflowers on Laguna’s Laurel-Lizard Loop

Explore the scenic Laurel and Lizard trails in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park for a geology-rich, imagination-sparking hike.
While expert hikers can tackle the steep 7.5-mile route from Quail Hill, most will prefer starting at the Willow/Laurel Trailhead off Highway 133 for a more manageable loop: Laurel → Lizard → Bommer Ridge → Willow.
Along the way, you’ll see sandstone formations, fossils, earthquake faults, and whimsical rocks shaped like Pac-Man or elephants.
Enjoy shady paths, coastal sage scents, and views of wildflowers and the ocean.
For an unforgettable experience, try a full moon or guided hike with OC Parks.

Celebrate Earth Day with Outdoor Painting at Katie Wheeler Library on April 16

The Vaqueros broke a 1–1 tie with a three-run third and added key runs later, including a sixth-inning triple and sacrifice fly combo from Ethan Kim and Hudson Hall.
