Irvine Man Sentenced to 13 Years for Attempted Murder and Assaulting Officer

Thomas Robert Tucker, 69, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 13 years in prison for intentionally striking a pedestrian with his vehicle and subsequently assaulting a police officer. The incident occurred on August 24, 2021, in Irvine, when Tucker deliberately drove his Ford Escape toward a woman taking an evening walk near Spyrock and Masterson. Despite her attempt to evade the vehicle, she was struck and sustained minor injuries. Tucker, who had no prior connection to the victim, fled the scene but was later stopped by law enforcement. During the arrest, he intentionally reversed into a police vehicle. He pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault on a peace officer, with an enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury. As part of a plea agreement, a sentencing enhancement for premeditated attempted murder, which carried a potential life sentence, was dismissed.
