Learn About Energy-Saving Home Upgrades at a Free Irvine Workshop

Join a free Electrify Irvine workshop on Thursday, August 13, from 6:30–8 p.m. at the Deerfield Community Center. Learn simple ways to make your home more energy efficient and comfortable, including how heat pump heating, air conditioning, and water heaters work. The workshop will also cover available rebates, financing options, group discounts, and how to request free quotes from community-screened installers.

Library of Things Expands with a New Violin for Checkout

The Irvine Public Library has added a violin to its Library of Things, expanding its collection of musical instruments available for checkout. The violin joins the library's electric guitar and ukulele.

Lee Brice Brings Live Country Music to Great Park Live

Enjoy an evening of live country music as Lee Brice takes the stage at Great Park Live in Irvine on Sunday, July 26. Doors open at 4 p.m. for this all-ages concert, featuring the singer-songwriter behind hits like "Rumor," "I Don't Dance," "I Drive Your Truck," and "One of Them Girls." 

Irvine High Business Students Recognized With Top National FBLA Finishes

Ten Irvine High School students represented the school at the 2026 FBLA National Leadership Conference in San Antonio, competing against approximately 16,000 of the nation's top business students. Two teams earned fourth place nationally in Sports & Entertainment Management and International Business.

UCI Health Expert Shares Tips for Safer Spine-Friendly Exercise

Exercise is important for overall health, but some movements may increase the risk of spine injuries, especially for people with a family history of back problems, according to UCI Health spine surgeon Dr. Emily S. Mills. She notes that exercises such as heavy deadlifts and improperly performed weighted squats can place significant stress on the spine. As lower-impact alternatives, she recommends hip bridges, hip thrusts, weighted step-ups, and reverse lunges, which target similar muscle groups while reducing strain on the back.

Take a Sunset Fitness Hike at Irvine Open Space Preserve on July 23

Join a fitness-focused sunset hike on Thursday, July 23, along the paved Hicks Haul Road in the Irvine Open Space Preserve. The approximately 3.5-mile out-and-back hike to Loma Ridge is designed for walkers, joggers, and runners at a comfortable pace, with most participants finishing in about an hour while enjoying panoramic Orange County views.

Young Makers Invited to Join August Woodworking Camp in Irvinev

Join a hands-on woodworking camp at Woodbridge Community Center from August 3–7, where kids can learn basic woodworking, safely use tools, and build their own projects. The camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Registration is available through the Woodbridge Village Association.

Losing a pet can be stressful, but these helpful tips may support you as you begin your search.

Helpful reminders:

  • 🐾 Check local shelters and rescues, including the Irvine Animal Care Center.

  • 📸 Share a recent photo and description on neighborhood groups, lost pet pages, and Nextdoor.

  • 🚶 Search nearby areas where your pet may have wandered.

  • 🏷️ Make sure your pet's ID tags and microchip information are current.

  • ❤️ If your pet is missing, don't lose hope—many pets have been reunited with their families over time.

Anteaters Welcome Madeline Lee and Obi Chan to Women's Golf Team

UC Irvine women's golf has added sophomore transfers Madeline Lee from Cal State Fullerton and Obi Chan from Baylor for the 2026–27 season. Head coach Margo Dionisio said both players bring valuable collegiate experience and are expected to strengthen the team's lineup.

Two Suspects Taken Into Custody After Reported Vandalism in Irvine

Two people were arrested after Irvine Police responded to a vandalism call at the handball courts on Lake last weekend. Officers found a freshly spray-painted wall and detained a man and woman who were allegedly in possession of spray paint. Juliet Angelina Bailey, 19, of Tustin, and Emiliano Aaron Pina, 22, of Irvine, were arrested on suspicion of vandalism.
