UCI Students Recreate Historic WWI Biplane for Great Park Museum

UC Irvine graduate students from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering are constructing a full-scale replica of the 1917 Curtiss JN-4 “Jenny” biplane as part of a collaboration with the Flying Leathernecks Heritage Foundation.
The project supports the upcoming Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum, planned to open at the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in early 2027.
Using original blueprints, historic components, and modern engineering methods, the team aims to produce a Smithsonian-quality reconstruction that will be displayed in the museum’s main rotunda.

Irvine Global Village Festival Returns October 11 at Great Park

The Irvine Global Village Festival will be held Saturday, October 11, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Great Park. The annual event highlights Irvine’s cultural diversity with live performances, art displays, international cuisine, and family-friendly activities.
Visitors can explore the Textiles & Traditions exhibit, view a global fashion show, sample dishes from around the world with a $5 tasting menu, and participate in hands-on crafts and games for kids.

The Alley USA has recently launched its Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle collaboration, offering collectible cups, stickers, and limited-time mochi drinks inspired by characters from the series.

Today, October 8, Irvine celebrates National Walk and Roll to School Day! Expect to see more students walking and biking to class as part of this event promoting healthy habits and safe transportation.
Drivers are reminded to stay alert, slow down, and follow the 25 MPH school zone speed limit when children are present.
The Irvine Police Department has additional officers on patrol this morning to help ensure a safe trip for all students.

New Beginnings for Irvine’s Furry Friends: 22 Adoptions

It was a busy and heartwarming week at the Irvine Animal Care Center from September 29–October 5, with many pets finding homes and others reunited with their families.
3 dogs adopted: Aurora, Hermoso, Jellybean
19 cats adopted: Audi, Luna, Pebbles, Zayn, and others
4 dogs reunited with their owners
4 dogs sent to rescue: Teddy, Apricot, Beau, Twix

UCI Women’s Golf Finishes Sixth in Kansas
UC Irvine finished sixth at the Marilyn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Kansas with a total score of 899.
Sophomore Katelyn Kong led the Anteaters with a sixth-place finish and an even-par 71 in the final round.
Kiana Briggs and Katherine Gerbing tied for 25th, while Jenny Chang and Alona Avery rounded out the lineup.
UCI wraps up its fall season at the Golf Iconic Classic in New Mexico, October 13–15.

Irvine Valley men’s soccer earned its second straight win and opened conference play with a 5–3 victory against Saddleback.
Armin Tehrani scored a hat trick in the first 12 minutes, with Andrew Roldan and Adam Scales adding goals.
Goalkeeper Sansiro Murata made five saves as the Lasers improved to 4–4 overall and 1–0 in conference play.

Crean Lutheran Football Stays Perfect with 40-14 Win Over Foothill

Crean Lutheran opened Epsilon League play with a 40-14 victory over Foothill in Tustin.
QB Caden Jones went 19 of 23 for 370 yards and four touchdowns, connecting with Ty Johnson (2), Luca Amaya, and Damari Hall, who also had an 80-yard score.
Caleb Bey and Lucas Wong added rushing TDs, while the Saints’ defense, led by Aaron Nicasio and Anthony Jones, kept Foothill quiet until late.

Irvine Police Seize Meth, Phones, and Pipe During Walmart Arrest

While patrolling at Walmart on Sunday night, Irvine police officers noticed a man acting suspiciously. Upon investigation, they discovered he was on probation for drug sales.
A search of his vehicle revealed methamphetamine, multiple phones, and a pipe.
The 60-year-old Santa Ana man was arrested for drug sales and booked into Orange County Jail.
