Irvine Firefighters Rescue Driver After I-405 Collision

Quick action from Irvine’s first responders helped save a driver after a serious crash on the I-405.

  • An adult female driver was rescued after her vehicle collided with a guard rail.

  • Firefighter paramedics responded promptly, with Truck 4 utilizing the “Jaws of Life” to carefully extricate the individual while Engine 36 provided advanced medical care.

  • The driver was safely removed from the vehicle and transported to a hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Irvine Ranked Top Housing Market Among Large U.S. Cities

Irvine was ranked the best housing market in the U.S. for big cities, according to WalletHub’s 2025 study.

  • The report looked at 300 cities and compared things like home prices, job growth, and financial health.

  • Irvine stood out with many newer homes, low rates of missed mortgage payments, and residents with strong credit scores.

Irvine Public Library Invites Community Feedback on Services and Spaces

The Irvine Public Library is planning for the future and invites the community to share input on collections, programs, services, and spaces.

  • A community meeting will be held on Monday, September 29, at 6:30 p.m. at Deerfield Community Center.

  • Residents can also complete a survey online or at any library branch through Sunday, November 16.

Irvine Hosts Free Healthy Living Expo October 4

Irvine’s 16th Annual Healthy Living Expo takes place Saturday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Civic Center.

  • The free event includes health screenings, flu shots, fitness classes, educational talks, and giveaways.

  • Visitors can explore booths with health and community resources for all ages.

  • This year, the expo is also part of Irvine’s first Nonprofit Week, connecting local organizations and residents.

  • Free transportation is available for residents 50 and older through TRIPS.

  • No sign-up is needed—just come and join in.

Beyond Quail Loop: A Picnic-Perfect Trek to Nix Nature Center

Ready for a hike that goes beyond the basics? The trail from Quail Hill to Nix Nature Center is a challenging but rewarding 9-mile loop with stunning views and plenty of variety.

  • Trail length: 9 miles round trip with some steep sections

  • Highlights: Ocean vistas, wildflowers, butterflies, and shady creek crossings

  • Rest stop: Nix Nature Center has restrooms, water refills, and shaded picnic spots

  • Pack list: Water, snacks or picnic lunch, and hiking poles if you have them

  • Detours: Check out Barbara’s Lake or Bommer Canyon on access days

  • Bonus challenge: Extend to Crystal Cove for an 11+ mile ocean adventure

Get Creative at The Artist Lab’s Character Pumpkin Painting Night

The Artist Lab in Irvine is hosting a Character Pumpkin Painting Night where you can paint your favorite characters on a pumpkin and take it home to display.

  • The event is on Friday, October 17, from 6:00–7:30 PM at 5311 University Drive, Irvine. Cost is $75 per person, and all materials (including pumpkins) are provided. A fun, creative evening open to all ages with family and friends.

UC Irvine Women’s Soccer Secures Conference-Opening Win

UC Irvine women’s soccer started Big West play strong with a 3-1 win over UC Riverside.

  • Chifumi Sasaki scored her first career goal, Mia Colombini added a penalty kick, and Trinity Morales sealed it late with a tap-in.

  • The Anteaters improved to 4-2-4, earned three conference points, and outshot UCR 13-6 while taking all nine corner kicks.

IVC Women’s Volleyball Rolls Past Santiago Canyon in Straight Sets

Irvine Valley women’s volleyball earned its first win under new head coach Kari Hemmerling, sweeping Santiago Canyon 25-23, 25-15, 25-9 to open conference play.

  • The Lasers improved to 1-5 overall, 1-0 in conference and next face Riverside on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

  • Key contributors included Emma Mendel (9 kills, 6 digs), Dalilah Rivero (8 kills, 10 assists, 4 aces), Alya Mersin (7 kills), Emmi Scelzo (9 digs), and Tori Esko (14 assists, 4 kills, 2 aces).

Irvine Police Arrest Two in Mail Theft Case Involving 50 Homes


Irvine police arrested two suspects last Friday after a license plate reader flagged their car on Jeffrey Road and Roosevelt.

  • Inside, officers found a trash bag filled with stolen mail from about 50 Irvine addresses.

  • The suspects, Tristan Quan Le of Anaheim and Terri Thuy Vellpradit of Garden Grove, were booked into Orange County Jail on charges of mail theft and conspiracy.

  • Residents are encouraged to sign up for USPS Informed Delivery to monitor expected mail.
