Irvine Firefighters Contain Garage Blaze, No Injuries Reported
Irvine firefighters quickly contained a garage fire at a two-story house, preventing it from spreading to the living area. Everyone safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported. The Red Cross is assisting four displaced adults, and fire investigators are determining the cause. Irvine Police also assisted on scene.
UC Irvineโs Summer Camp Prepares Teens for Nursing Careers Amid Growing National Shortage
UC Irvineโs summer nurse camp offers high school students hands-on experience in nursing, including CPR training and mentorship. The program, led by nursing professor Leanne Burke, aims to prepare teens for a career in nursing by providing practical skills and early exposure to the profession. The camp, which quickly filled its slots, highlights the growing need for nurses, with California facing one of the largest projected shortages. Activities like practicing shots on hot dogs and learning to use protective equipment make the camp both educational and engaging. The program hopes to expand to middle schoolers by 2025.

Understanding Traffic Breaks: How They Keep You Safe on the Road
Have you ever seen a police vehicle weaving across lanes with lights and sirens? This is called a traffic breakโa method used to slow or stop traffic for safety. Always stay 300ft or more behind the patrol vehicle (21706 CVC) and never pass it. Traffic breaks help remove hazards, assist stalled vehicles, protect crash scenes, and preserve evidence.

From Underdogs to Contenders: How UCI Women's Soccer Is Set to Surprise Again in 2024
UCI has made history by becoming the first team to upset a 1-seed and reach the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament. The Anteaters have also joined an elite group of seven programs that have reached the last two Sweet 16s. As they enter their 10th season under the coaching trio of Scott Junpier, P.J. Woolridge, and Danielle de Seriere, UCI looks strong with returning talents like Kiera Smeenge and Emilie Castagna. The team returns over 50% of last season's scoring and is bolstered by key players like Savanna Arruda and Ashley Naylor. Despite a fourth-place preseason ranking, UCI is set to challenge top teams, with a new substitution rule in place for the final 15 minutes of regulation. Upcoming matches against Saint Maryโs and Stanford will test the team, with the Gaels holding an edge in their history and Stanford returning as the 2023 national runners-up.
