Irvine Company Proposes New Spectrum District Village with Homes, Parks, and School

The Irvine Company is planning a new master-planned community in the northern part of the Irvine Spectrum District, replacing the Oak Creek Golf Course and nearby commercial sites.

  • Called the Spectrum District Village, the plan includes 3,100 homes (with single-family and apartment options), a new IUSD elementary school, expansive parks, and trail connections, including a link to the Jeffrey Open Space Trail.

  • The village aims to meet state housing mandates by placing residents near major job centers and amenities, with strong community support for the design.

  • Key planning principles focus on housing for families and professionals, integrating a central school, enhancing park and open space access, and improving transportation options.

  • The project remains in early planning stages, and community feedback is encouraged as city review continues.

City of Irvine Implements Library System Overhaul with August Reopenings and Future Expansion Plans

Julie Zeoli, Irvine’s first City Librarian, is overseeing the City’s transition from the Orange County Public Library system to an independent municipal library system.

  • This effort includes staff hiring, building a new integrated database, refreshing interiors at Heritage Park and University Park libraries (set to reopen August 4), and expanding digital offerings.

  • Approximately 10,000–15,000 new items will be added to the existing collection.

  • The Katie Wheeler Library is scheduled to transition in early 2026 under a lease agreement.

  • Future plans include a new main library at the Great Park and incorporating a “library of things” model to expand lending beyond books.

  • Community input is being gathered through public meetings. More information is available at irvinepubliclibrary.com.

How to Safely Manage Your Child’s Earwax Buildup: Tips from FCCMG

Excessive earwax in children can cause discomfort, hearing issues, and symptoms like dizziness or ear pain. Children with narrow ear canals, frequent ear infections, or those who use hearing aids may be more prone to buildup.

  • Parents concerned about excessive earwax in their children should watch for signs like ear tugging, muffled hearing, dizziness, or ear pain.

  • FCCMG recommends avoiding cotton swabs or sharp objects, which can push wax deeper. Instead, try over-the-counter ear drops or warm water flushes using a rubber syringe—done gently and safely.

  • For persistent symptoms, seek professional care. FCCMG Urgent Care in Irvine and Costa Mesa offers earwax removal using methods like irrigation, suction, or curettes.
