Irvine City Council Approves New E-Bike Safety Rules

The Irvine City Council has approved tougher e-bike regulations in response to a sharp rise in collisions, particularly involving riders under 18. Following public safety reports from Irvine Police showing reckless riding, increased injuries, and youth-related crashes, the Council voted 6–1 on January 27 to adopt new rules aligned with state law. These include:
Banning speed modifications
Allowing citations for parents who knowingly permit violations
Setting speed limits of 10 mph on sidewalks (5 mph when pedestrians are present) and 20 mph on bike paths
Strengthening enforcement of California’s helmet law for minors
The changes aim to improve safety for riders, pedestrians, and drivers across Irvine.
Fatal Late-Night Crash on SB 405 in Irvine Involving Caltrans Contractor Vehicle

A fatal traffic collision occurred late Thursday evening on the southbound 405 Freeway in Irvine near MacArthur Boulevard, involving a Caltrans contractor vehicle. The incident took place around 10:45 p.m. when an SUV reportedly struck the contractor’s truck.
One individual in the SUV was pronounced deceased.
A Caltrans contractor was injured, and four additional individuals were transported to a local hospital with conditions not immediately known.
The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances.
Caltrans has expressed its concern for those affected and respectfully reminds motorists to slow down and proceed with caution when traveling through construction and maintenance areas.

Pet Licensing: Helping Lost Pets Find Their Way Home

Licensing your pet is a simple and meaningful way to help keep them safe and ensure they can be quickly reunited with you if they ever get lost. A pet license also supports important animal care services that promote public health and safety in our community.
In California, all dogs four months and older are required by law to have a current license tag, while cat licensing is encouraged but not mandatory.
