Irvine Animal Services Rescues Over 50 Cats from Local Breeder's Home
Animal Services Officers rescued over 50 malnourished and unhealthy cats from a breeder's home on Garnet Street in Irvine. The breeder was selling Ragdoll and British Shorthair cats for up to $1,000. The cats are now receiving care at the Irvine Animal Care Center (IACC), and updates on their availability for adoption will be posted on the IACC website. The case is under investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Animal Services.
UC Irvine Faces Legal Challenge from Suspended Students Over Protest Participation
Five students from UC Irvine, who were indefinitely suspended following their participation in pro-Palestinian protests earlier this year, have filed a lawsuit against the university. The students assert that their suspensions were imposed without due process and have severely impacted their education and future prospects. They remain anonymous due to concerns for their safety and potential retaliation. With the new academic year approaching, the students are urgently seeking a resolution to the situation, as the suspensions prevent them from completing their degrees. The university, while declining to comment on the ongoing litigation, stated that the students were repeatedly informed that their actions violated university policies and could result in disciplinary measures. UC Irvine has emphasized the need to balance freedom of speech with the safety and security of the campus community.

Summer Hazards for Pets: Common Toxins and How to Keep Your Furry Friends Safe
Summer is fun for pets, but it also brings potential dangers.
- Mole and gopher baits are highly toxic to pets, even in small amounts.
- Snail and slug baits can cause severe symptoms like tremors, seizures, and high body temperatures.
- Compost can produce toxic mold, which is harmful to pets.
- Certain garden plants like tomato plants, rhubarb, onions, garlic, and grapes are toxic to pets.
- Wild mushrooms can cause gastrointestinal issues, neurological problems, or liver failure.
- Mulch, especially cocoa bean mulch, can be dangerous if ingested.
- Outdoor chemicals like fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides can harm pets if ingested.
- Blue-green algae in stagnant water can be deadly to pets if ingested or if they swim in it.
Immediate veterinary care is crucial if your pet ingests any of these toxins. Contact your vet or Pet Poison Helpline for assistance in case of suspected poisoning.
