Orange County Officials Highlight Growing Concern Over Children's E-Bike Injuries

A sharp rise in pediatric e-bike injuries is prompting renewed safety reminders for Orange County families. The Orange County District Attorney shared that CHOC treated just one child for an e-bike injury in 2021, but that number grew to 201 cases in 2025, making e-bike crashes the leading cause of trauma visits at the hospital's trauma center. He reminded parents that e-bikes and e-motorcycles are motorized vehicles, not toys, and encouraged them to make sure their children wear properly fitted helmets and practice safe riding habits to help prevent serious injuries and save lives.

Hot Days Ahead: Remember to Hydrate, Avoid Sparks, and Stay Water Safe
![]() | ![]() |
As temperatures climb across California, CAL FIRE is encouraging residents to take simple precautions to protect themselves and those around them. Extreme heat can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, wildfire activity, and water-related incidents, making it especially important to stay prepared and aware.
π§ Stay hydrated and check in on family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
π₯ Help prevent wildfires by avoiding all activities that can create sparks or ignite dry vegetation.
π Practice water safety by staying alert to changing conditions and supervising children around water.
βοΈ Take heat seriously and make smart choices to help keep yourself and your community safe during periods of extreme temperatures.

From Vet Visits to Litter Boxes: A New Cat Owner's Guide
![]() | ![]() |
Thinking about bringing home a new cat? It can feel a little overwhelming at first, but don't worry β a few simple steps can help your new furry friend settle in and thrive.
π Start with routine and patience: Give your cat a quiet, safe area with food, water, a litter box, and a cozy place to rest. Keep their world small at first so they can adjust without feeling overwhelmed.
π©Ί Schedule a vet visit early: Book a checkup as soon as possible. If you can, bring a stool sample so the vet can screen for worms or parasites and discuss your cat's overall health needs.
π Cover the basics: Ask your veterinarian about vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick prevention, heartworm protection, microchipping, pet insurance, and spay/neuter recommendations.
πΎ Introduce good habits right away: Show them where the litter box is, provide scratching posts to protect your furniture, and encourage positive behaviors from the start.
πΎ Make time for play and socialization: Gentle interaction, toys, and regular playtime help build confidence and strengthen your bond while supporting healthy development.
β€οΈ Don't stress: The first few weeks are all about learning together. Be patient, stay consistent, and remember β you've got this!
