Heat Wave Hits Orange County: High School Athletics Prepare for Potential Game Delays
High school athletic directors and coaches in Orange County are closely monitoring excessive heat forecasts, which could impact football, tennis, cross country, and water polo events later in the week. Temperatures are expected to reach near 100ยฐF on Thursday and Friday, though cooler at night when most football games are scheduled. Some events, like the Servite vs. Chaminade game, have been delayed, and further changes are possible. CIF's Extreme Heat and Air Quality Policy, mandated by Assembly Bill 1653, is in effect, with schools using heat stress trackers to monitor conditions. Games may be adjusted depending on heat levels, and safety protocols, such as additional water breaks or postponements, are in place.
