Concerts on the Lake Returns July 25 with Live Country Hits

Enjoy a relaxing summer evening at Woodbridge’s Concerts on the Lake series at the North Lake Gazebo on Saturday, July 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Bring a picnic, gather with friends and family, and enjoy live country music by Redneck Rodeo.

Irvine Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting Following Mental Health Response

Irvine Police responded to a call around 11:45 a.m. yesterday from a 20-year-old Irvine resident experiencing a mental health crisis who reported being armed with a knife outside his home. Officers with the Crisis Negotiation Team spent more than an hour working toward a peaceful resolution while the Orange County Fire Authority and the I-CARE team stood by to provide medical and mental health support. During the incident, the man reportedly charged at officers while holding the knife, leading to an officer-involved shooting. Officers immediately provided life-saving aid before he was transported to a hospital, where he later died. The Orange County District Attorney's Office and Irvine Police detectives are investigating the incident. His identity has not yet been released pending family notification.

Orange County DA Shares Easy Ways to Help Loved Ones Avoid Scams

In 2025, more than 201,000 adults age 60 and older reported losing over $7.7 billion to scams—a 59% increase in losses compared to 2024. The Orange County District Attorney urges families to talk with loved ones about recognizing scams before they happen. Taking a few minutes to discuss common warning signs and safe online habits can help prevent costly fraud.

Scam Prevention Tips

  • Get a second opinion: Before signing a contract or making a major investment, talk it over with someone you trust.

  • Avoid unexpected links: Don't click links in suspicious emails or text messages.

  • Pause before responding: If something feels urgent or unusual, stop and speak with a trusted friend or family member before taking action online or over the phone.

  • Report scams promptly: If you believe you've been targeted, end all communication with the scammer and contact your local law enforcement agency right away.

Irvine Invites Youth and Parents to Free E-Bike Safety Training on July 25

Join the free I-Ride Safe Academy on Saturday, July 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Irvine City Hall for a one-day e-bike safety training designed for Irvine youth riders and their parents. Led by the Irvine Police Department, the program includes classroom instruction, hands-on riding practice, a completion certificate, safety resources, refreshments, and a parent education panel with City staff and public safety officials.

Weekly Pet Update: 11 Adoptions and 7 Happy Reunions at Irvine Animal Care Center

During the week of July 13–19, the Irvine Animal Care Center celebrated 11 pet adoptions, including 1 dog and 10 cats, helping them find new homes. The center also reunited 6 dogs and 1 cat with their owners.

UC Irvine Cross Country Announces 2026 Competition Schedule

UC Irvine's men's and women's cross country teams have announced their 2026 schedule, opening the season at the Aztec Coastal Classic in San Diego on Sept. 3 before competing in meets across California and Oregon. The Anteaters will race at the Big West Championship in Riverside on Oct. 31, followed by the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento on Nov. 13, with qualifying runners advancing to the NCAA Championships in Indiana on Nov. 21.

IVC Women's Basketball Standout Alexis Price Commits to Cal State Fullerton

Irvine Valley College women's basketball standout Alexis Price has committed to NCAA Division I Cal State Fullerton after two standout seasons with the Lasers. The two-time All-Orange Empire Conference selection helped IVC win a conference title and reach the state tournament, averaging 13.9 points and 8.1 rebounds during the 2025–26 season.
