Irvine Exits County Library System, Plans New City-Run Libraries with $9 Million
Orange County Supervisors have approved Irvine's exit from the county library system after a year of disputes. This move will free up over $9 million annually for Irvine to develop its own library system, with some county financial support. Despite contributing over $17 million annually to the county system, only $4-5 million was spent in Irvine, leading to frustrations over outdated facilities. The city will now take over some county library locations, with plans to open new ones.
Irvine Firefighters Rescue Biker After Fall on San Diego Creek Bikewa
Irvine firefighters and paramedics from Engine 28, with support from the Irvine Police Department, responded to a biker who fell off his bike near San Diego Creek Bikeway and Alton. The man was found down a rocky embankment, where crews used a rope system to safely rescue him. He received paramedic care on-site and was transported to the hospital.

How to Recognize and Respond to Excessive Panting in Your Dog
Dogs pant to cool down naturally, but excessive panting can indicate serious issues. Potential causes: stress, pain, heatstroke, dehydration, or underlying health conditions.
Immediate actions:
- Contact your vet if panting starts suddenly or is intense and constant.
- Look for signs of distress, like discomfort or pain.
- Check if your dog's tongue or gums appear blue, purple, or white, this indicates a lack of oxygen.
UC Irvine Men’s Soccer Aims High in 2024 After Big West Championship Victory
UC Irvine's men's soccer team is entering the 2024 season with high expectations after a successful 2023, where they won their 5th Big West Championship and made their 7th NCAA Tournament appearance under coach Yossi Raz. The Anteaters are favored to win the Big West again, with key players like Luke Pruter, Mathias Winum, and Francesco Montanile leading the charge. The team faces a tough early schedule with three ranked opponents, including a season opener against Oregon State. UCI's roster is bolstered by experienced transfers and international talent, and they are implementing new rules this season that impact substitutions. Woodbridge High Football Coach Aims for Turnaround in New League After Challenging Season
Woodbridge High School football coach Aaron Craver is optimistic that a year of experience will lead to improvement for his team as they enter a new league this season. After a challenging 1-9 season last year, Craver believes the team's hard work during the offseason will prevent a repeat of past mistakes. The Warriors will now compete in the Omicron League, facing teams like Pacifica, University, Portola, Buena Park, and Katella. Key players to watch include seniors Alijah Bray, Jovohn Cruz, Adrien Garnica, Jayden Clayborn, and quarterback Caden Jones, who transferred from Mater Dei last year. The team's home games will be played at University, with their season opener on August 23 against Calvary Chapel.
