Irvine Explores Agricultural Solutions to Support Local Food Assistance Programs

Irvine Mayor Larry Agran recently participated in a community effort to address food insecurity, joining volunteers at Harvest Solutions Farm to harvest 30,000 pounds of broccoli for Second Harvest Food Bank. The initiative is part of Agran’s broader commitment to combating hunger, exemplified by his recent affiliation with the National Mayors Alliance to End Childhood Hunger. Harvest Solutions Farm, a collaboration between Second Harvest, Solutions for Urban Ag, and the UC South Coast Research & Extension Center, provides fresh produce to food banks and community pantries. Agran has expressed interest in expanding local agricultural efforts, suggesting that available land within the Great Park could be utilized to further support food security initiatives in Orange County.

Understanding Fevers & When to Seek Care

A fever (100.4°F+) is the body's natural response to infections, often caused by viruses, bacteria, or other health conditions. While mild fevers can typically be managed at home, persistent or high fevers (101°F+ for adults, 102°F+ for infants) may indicate a more serious issue.

  • In some cases, fevers accompany severe symptoms like headaches, vomiting, or breathing difficulties, requiring urgent medical attention.

  • Knowing when to seek care can help prevent complications and ensure a speedy recovery.

  • FCCMG Urgent Care provides fast and effective fever treatment at clinics in Irvine, Fountain Valley, and Costa Mesa, open daily for walk-ins and online reservations.

Protecting Local Wildlife: How Data-Driven Conservation Makes a Difference

Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC) is dedicated to protecting local wildlife through advanced monitoring techniques. Using heat and motion-triggered cameras, they study animals like deer, mountain lions, and bobcats, gaining insights into their behaviors and responses to seasonal changes and human activity. Each year, IRC staff analyze over a million images, collecting crucial data to guide conservation efforts and habitat protection. This research helps preserve ecosystems and ensure wildlife continues to thrive.
