UCI Launches Initiative for Diabetes Prevention and Care in Latinx Community

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) has initiated a program targeting diabetes in the Latinx community of Orange County, focusing on prevention, research, and treatment. Dr. Alpesh Amin is leading this initiative, aiming to transform diabetes healthcare and enhance the well-being of the Latinx population, which is disproportionately affected by the disease. The program includes educational, clinical, and research-based resources, and has set forth initial recommendations such as organizing dance exercise classes, reconstituting medical visitation programs, and improving electronic medical records messaging systems. UCI Health, the universityโs clinical enterprise, is committed to providing top-tier diabetes care and research, with its Diabetes Center being the only comprehensive academic diabetes center in the region. The initiative is supported by the UCI-OC Alliance, a community organization connecting local leaders and businesses with UCI to advance Latinx students and the community.

Educate Family Members About Online Safety: Establish Clear Guidelines and Rules

Cybersecurity Awareness Month acts as a crucial time to refresh and to educate family members about online safety and good digital habits in todayโs digital age:
Description: Parents can create a set of clear and concise guidelines that outline acceptable and unacceptable online behaviors. These rules should cover various aspects of digital usage, including time limits, types of websites and apps that can be accessed, and online communication etiquette.
Implementation: Hold a family meeting to discuss and establish these rules. Make sure to involve all family members in the conversation, allowing them to voice their opinions and ask questions. Clearly explain the reasons behind each rule to ensure understanding and compliance.
Example: Create a family internet usage policy that includes rules like no devices during dinner, a curfew for device usage at night, and a list of approved apps and websites.
