San Diego Creek Channel Maintenance: Lane and Bike Trail Closures Expected in Irvine
Construction Alert - City of Irvine (Sept 30 - Nov 5,): OC Public Works will remove vegetation and sediment from the San Diego Creek Channel between MacArthur and Campus Drive. Lane closures and bike trail detours will occur, but roads remain open. Expect delays and intermittent bike trail closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Traffic control and signage will guide motorists and bikers. Work hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

UC Irvine Soccer Shuts Out San Diego State in 2-0 Victory Behind Goalkeeper Paul Jing's Heroic Debut
UC Irvine's men's soccer team secured a 2-0 victory over San Diego State, with standout performances from goalkeeper Paul Jing, who made his collegiate debut after being called up from the intramural squad due to injuries. Jing, supported by a strong defense, made two crucial saves, leading to the teamโs first shutout of 2024. The Anteaters' offense contributed with goals from Roman Warren and Samuel Atiye in the 23rd and 54th minutes, respectively. UCI now stands at 3-4-1 as they prepare to face Cal State Fullerton on October 2, to kick off Big West play.
UC Irvine Volleyball Rallies from Two Sets Down to Defeat Hawaii in Thrilling 3-2 Victory
UC Irvine pulled off an impressive reverse sweep, defeating Hawaii 3-2 (21-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-18, 15-13) at SimpliFi Arena in Honolulu. This marks only the second time UCI has beaten Hawaii, with both wins coming in reverse sweeps on the road. Hunter Riedl led the charge with a season-high 21 kills, while Ella Gardiner added 13 kills and three block assists. The Anteaters now sit at 8-5 overall and 2-0 in Big West play. Head Coach Ashlie Hain praised the teamโs collective effort, with multiple players stepping up in crucial moments. UCI returns home to face CSUN on October 4.

University High Football Shuts Out Glenn with Explosive Plays, Prepares for League Opener
University High School's football team dominated Glenn with a 38-0 win, finishing non-league play at 3-2. The Trojans took a 21-0 lead by halftime, with key plays including a 65-yard TD pass from Dylan Elmer to Carl Oldham, a blocked punt returned for a TD by Luke Emerich, and additional touchdowns by Justin Tribble and Damari Carter. Jake Rabold also contributed a 41-yard field goal and a TD pass. Coach Vince Mesa praised the team's execution and improvement. The Trojans host Pacifica Friday in their Omicron League opener.

Despite numerous warnings and community efforts, many e-motorcycle riders in Irvine continue to ride illegally and unsafely. On Thursday, one rider faced the consequences as their motorcycle was towed and impounded for 30 days. School Resource Officers and the Traffic Bureau are actively addressing e-device safety concerns, urging parents to monitor what their children are riding. Community cooperation is essential in maintaining safety.
