Cracking Down on Crime: Orange County's Bold Moves Against Gang Violence

The Orange County District Attorney's Office's three-prong approach to combat gangs—comprising the Gang/TARGET Unit, the Gang Injunction Program, and the Orange County Gang Reduction and Intervention Partnership (GRIP)—has significantly reduced the number of documented gang members in Orange County since 1999. The Gang Unit focuses on the vertical prosecution of serious and violent felonies by gang members, ensuring cases are handled by a deputy district attorney familiar with the gang's history from filing to sentencing.

Local Philanthropists Ralph and Sue Stern Boost Cancer Care at UCI Health with Major Donation

Ralph and Sue Stern, longtime donors, have supported the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCI Health with over $12.5 million. This support has significantly enhanced the center's capabilities, including the establishment of a robust clinical trials program. The Sterns' journey with the center began in 2007 when Sue's life was saved by a complex spinal surgery at UCI Medical Center. Their donations have helped the center triple its capacity, offer over 500 clinical trials, and provide world-class cancer care in Orange County. Their commitment ensures that local patients receive the best possible treatment and supports groundbreaking research in cancer care.

Protect Your Dog's Paws: Essential Summer Walking Tips

As temperatures rise in Irvine, protect your dog's paws from hot pavement burns.

  • Use the "seven-second rule": if you can't hold your hand on the pavement for seven seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws.

  • Consider cooler alternatives like early morning or late evening trail walks, water play, or indoor activities.

  • Keep your furry friends safe and comfortable this summer! For more tips, visit Irvine Animal Care Center Resources.
