According to Geeta Sikand, director of nutrition at UCI Health Cardiology Services, counseling involves more than just a heart-healthy diet—it focuses on identifying and addressing barriers that hinder patients from adopting healthier habits. Sikand works closely with UCI Health cardiologists to create personalized action plans, incorporating nutrition, physical activity, and other steps to reduce future cardiac risks.

Irvine Valley Women's Soccer Strike in the 90th Minute for a Hard-Fought Win Over East Los Angeles

Last week, the Irvine Valley women's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over East Los Angeles at home. Despite dominating with 32 shots to East LA's 3, the Lasers had to wait until the 90th minute for sophomore forward Jordan Madison to score the game-winner off a cross from freshman defender Lilliana Springer. East LA's goalkeeper, Karen Chen Zhao, made 15 saves, but IVC’s relentless pressure paid off in the end. The win improved IVC’s record to 5-2-0, while the Huskies dropped to 0-5-1.

Joseph Harper Shifts to Middle Linebacker, Eyes Big Finish at Northwood

Northwood High's Joseph Harper, a senior standout, earned All-CIF honors as a defensive end for the second year in a row. This season, he's transitioning to middle linebacker and will also play running back, following in his brother Adam's footsteps. Harper, who set school sack records last season, aims to continue making a significant impact on both sides of the ball. Despite past injuries, he feels ready for a strong final year before pursuing Division 1 football.
Other key players to watch this season include Caden Jones (Woodbridge), Michael Gasper (University), CJ Bertoni (Beckman), and Brandon Figueroa (Irvine).
