Authorities Investigate Hazmat Call at Irvine Home

Hazmat crews, the Orange County Sheriff's Bomb Squad, Irvine police, and the FBI responded to a home in Irvine's Altair community on Tuesday after a neighbor reported a suspicious odor. Authorities confirmed the home belongs to the same family involved in an earlier FBI investigation related to a teenager's home science lab, though this incident occurred at a different residence. The family's attorney said the materials had previously been cleared by investigators and maintained there was no wrongdoing. Officials said there was no danger to the public, no evacuations were ordered, and the investigation concluded after authorities cleared the home.

Health & Water Safety: Summer Water Safety Tips for Kids

Summer camp is a wonderful opportunity for children to stay active, build confidence, and make lasting memories. Taking a few moments to learn about a camp's water safety practices can help support a fun and safe experience.
Become familiar with where water activities take place, such as pools, lakes, rivers, or the ocean.
Consider whether water activities are appropriate for your child's swimming skills and experience.
Look for camps that provide trained lifeguards and attentive supervision during aquatic activities.
Ask if swimming abilities are assessed so activities can be matched to each child's comfort level.
For boating and paddle sports, ensure properly fitted U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets are used.
Learn about the camp's emergency preparedness, including staff training in CPR and first aid.
Encourage children to continue developing swimming and water safety skills throughout the summer.
Reach out to your child's pediatrician if you have questions about water safety or camp readiness.

Join a Cowboy Adventure for Kids at Bommer Canyon Preserve
