Why Great Practice Habits Matter More Than Natural Talent

It's easy to assume that confident performers are simply born with more talent, but the difference often comes down to how they prepare. Students who make steady progress tend to practice with clear goals, break big challenges into smaller, manageable steps, learn from feedback, and keep trying even when mistakes happen. Over time, music teaches much more than notes and rhythms. It helps students build perseverance, consistency, problem-solving skills, and trust in the effort they've put in. Those lessons don't just help on recital day โ they can support students in school, future activities, and other moments in life when confidence and resilience matter most.

Keep Your Pets Safe: Summer Heat Tips for Dog Owners

As temperatures rise, the Irvine Animal Care Center is encouraging pet owners to take extra precautions during summer walks to help protect dogs from hot pavement and heat-related risks.
Tips:
Place the back of your hand on the pavement for seven seconds before walking your dog.
If the ground feels too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your dog's paws.
Choose early morning or evening walks when sidewalks have had time to cool down.
Avoid midday outings, when heat stress can develop quickly.
On hot days, opt for indoor play, training sessions, or enrichment games to keep your dog active and engaged safely.
For more pet care tips, visit the Irvine Animal Care Center's resources at cityofirvine.gov/animals.
