Extreme Heat Expected in Irvine July 15–16; Cooling Centers Available

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Irvine from Wednesday, July 15, at 10 a.m. through Thursday, July 16, at 8 p.m. City of Irvine cooling centers are available for residents and their pets seeking a comfortable, air-conditioned place to cool off.
Heat Safety Tips
Stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day.
Wear lightweight clothing and limit outdoor activities during peak heat.
Take breaks in the shade or an air-conditioned space if spending time outdoors.
Never leave children, older adults, or pets in a parked vehicle.
Check in on seniors, young children, and others who may be more sensitive to the heat.
Experience Back to the Future in Concert with Pacific Symphony in Irvine

Enjoy an outdoor movie and concert experience on Saturday, August 1, as Pacific Symphony presents Back to the Future at Great Park Live in Irvine. The classic film will be shown on the big screen while the orchestra performs Alan Silvestri's iconic score live in sync with the movie.

Free World Cup Watch Parties Continue at Great Park Live July 15–19

Soccer fans are invited to the free World Cup Watch Party Series at Great Park Live as the tournament heads into its final matches. Upcoming watch parties include the England vs. Argentina semifinal today, July 15, at noon, the Third Place Match on Saturday, July 18, at 2 p.m., and the Final on Sunday, July 19, at noon.

Northwood High Seniors Awarded National Merit Scholarships for Academic Excellence

Two Northwood High School students in the Irvine Unified School District, Jordan Chu and Bijou Young Park, have been awarded college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships for the 2025–26 school year. Selected for their outstanding academic achievement, leadership, extracurricular involvement, and community impact, each student will receive scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study at their chosen universities.

Summer Pet Care: Tips to Help Your Dog Stay Cool

Warm weather can be tough on dogs. Here are a few tips to help keep your furry friend cool, comfortable, and safe during the summer months.
Tips:
🐶 Avoid leaving your dog in a parked car, even for a short time.
💧 Offer fresh water throughout the day and bring water on outings.
🌅 Plan walks during the cooler morning or evening hours.
🌳 Make sure your dog has access to shade when spending time outdoors.
🐾 Take breaks during walks or playtime if your dog seems warm.
🎉 Consider skipping crowded outdoor events on especially hot days.
🔗 Avoid tying your dog outside, especially in warm weather.
🏠 Keep indoor spaces comfortable with fans, closed blinds, or cooling mats when needed.
🐾 Watch out for hot pavement, which can be uncomfortable for paws.

UC Irvine Women's Volleyball Reveals Team Captains Before 2026 Season Opener
UC Irvine women's volleyball has named Nicole Feliciano, Kendra MacDonald, and Jessica Bates as team captains for the 2026 season. The Anteaters open with home exhibition matches against USC on Aug. 15 and Concordia on Aug. 22 before starting the regular season at Washington on Aug. 28.

Irvine Police Arrest Suspect Following Domestic Violence Incident and Chase

A 48-year-old Costa Mesa man was arrested after allegedly confronting his ex-girlfriend at her workplace in Irvine, forcing her into his vehicle while reportedly displaying what she believed was a firearm. The victim was able to escape, and Irvine police later located the suspect, who was arrested following a vehicle pursuit. He was booked on charges including domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, and felony evading.
