First Aid Tips for Injured Dog Foot Pads

A dogโs foot pads are vital for comfort, safety, and mobilityโabsorbing shock, providing traction, and protecting from the elements. When a pad is torn, punctured, or burned, gentle care at home can help until professional treatment is available. Hereโs what to know:
Clean the wound gently using cool water and mild antibacterial soap. Remove visible debris with tweezers if easily accessible.
Control bleeding by applying pressure with a clean towel. If it doesnโt stop within 10โ15 minutes, seek emergency care.
Apply a protective bandage using non-stick gauze and wrap from the toes to the ankle or wrist. Ensure it's snug but not tight.
Change the bandage daily and monitor for swelling, odor, or discharge. Use anti-lick spray if needed.
Treat burns (from hot pavement, ice, or chemicals) by rinsing with cool water and contacting a vet if the skin is damaged or discolored.
Prevent future injuries by avoiding walks on sharp, hot, icy, or chemically treated surfaces.
Veterinary follow-up is always recommended for persistent wounds, signs of infection, or severe burns.
