UC Irvine Develops Wearable Sensor That Monitors Health Through Sweat

UC Irvine researchers have developed a lightweight, wearable sensor that uses sweat to provide continuous health monitoring. Designed to track biomarkers related to hydration, stress, metabolism, and disease, the battery-free device can operate for up to three weeks thanks to a self-regenerating sensing surface. Researchers say the technology could support chronic disease management, athletic performance monitoring, early disease detection, and remote healthcare, while offering a more convenient and comfortable way to gather real-time health information. While still being refined before commercial use, the innovation highlights the growing potential of wearable technology to support personalized health monitoring.
