Irvine Police Conduct Traffic Enforcement Near Alderwood Elementary

The Irvine Police Department’s Traffic Bureau held a one-hour “A+ Priority” operation near Alderwood Elementary to enhance traffic safety following community concerns. Officers issued 15 citations for violations such as stop sign running, cell phone use, loud exhaust, and driving with a suspended license. One arrest was made for a DUI warrant.
IPD reminds drivers that California’s “no touch” cell phone law prohibits holding a phone for any reason while driving.
Local Food Bank Provides Resources for Affected Households

Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County is maintaining food distribution services during the federal government shutdown. The organization operates nearly 400 distribution sites and recently opened a temporary pantry at John Wayne Airport, which has provided food to 169 TSA households in its first week.
Community members can learn more or contribute at feedoc.org/fall25.
Final Call for Input: Share Ideas for Future Library Programs & Spaces

The Irvine Public Library invites community members to its final community meeting on Wednesday, November 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Portola Springs Community Center to discuss future library programming, collections, and spaces. Attendees can share ideas that will help shape innovative and inclusive library services.
Those unable to attend can also take the online survey at cityofirvine.org/library.
Holiday Giving: Join the City of Irvine Toy Drive for 2/11 Battalion Families

The City of Irvine and the Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee are hosting their annual Holiday Toy Drive to support families of Irvine’s adopted 2/11 Marine Battalion. Now through December 13, residents can drop off new, unwrapped gifts for children aged 12 and under at several Irvine locations. These donations help bring joy and connection to local military families during the holidays.

Ride Smart, Ride Safe: Your Quick Guide to E-Bike Rules in Irvine

E-bikes are a fun, fast way to get around Irvine — but they also come with important safety rules. Here’s what every rider (and parent) should know before hitting the road in Irvine:
✅ What’s an E—Bike:
Has working pedals and a motor under 750 watts.
Class 1: Pedal-assist only, up to 20 MPH.
Class 2: Throttle or pedal-assist, up to 20 MPH.
Class 3: Pedal-assist up to 28 MPH — riders must be 16+ and wear a helmet.
🚦 Where You Can Ride:
Follow all bike traffic laws — stop at lights and signs, ride with traffic.
Use bike lanes or stay to the right side of the road.
Sidewalks are allowed in Irvine (not Newport Beach); always yield to pedestrians and give a signal when passing.
Stay off parks, playgrounds, and school grounds.
🪖 Safety Tips:
Helmets: Required for all riders under 18, and for everyone on Class 3 bikes.
Passengers: Must ride on a permanent seat only.
Stay alert: No texting, eating, or earbuds in both ears.
Ride smart: Adjust speed for traffic and weather.
⚠️ Not Legal E-Bikes:
Devices like Sur Ron X or Segway X260 don’t qualify — they exceed legal speeds and lack pedals.
💡 Bottom Line:
Obey the rules, wear helmets, and ride with care — e-bikes move faster than regular bikes, so safety always comes first!
