Irvine Deploys Robots to Assess Public Facility Accessibility

The City of Irvine is working to improve accessibility by conducting a review of public facilities to ensure they meet the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • In collaboration with Daxbot, the City is using robots equipped with GPS and sensors to assess curb ramps and sidewalks.

  • The robots will collect data on cracks, uplifts, and slopes to aid in prioritizing future accessibility improvements.

  • The assessment will take place from south to north across the City, with the robots working Monday through Friday.

  • Field technicians will be on standby to address any technical issues.

Shake Shack Opens Second Irvine Location at The Market Place

Shake Shack has opened a second Irvine location at The Market Place, joining its Irvine Spectrum Center spot.

  • The new restaurant serves its signature Angus beef burgers, crinkle-cut fries, shakes, and lemonades.

  • It is celebrating with 12 limited-time menu items, including the Carolina BBQ burger with fried pickles, an Oreo Cookie Funnel Cake shake, and Mini Raspberry Popping Boba lemonade.

  • Shake Shack began as a hot dog cart in New York City and has grown to 350 locations worldwide.

Sip & Stroll: Eastern Tales Brings Thai Tea Magic to Irvine Farmers’ Market

Eastern Tales is a Thai tea spot that blends bold flavors with fun toppings, making every sip a treat. You can find them every Sunday at the Irvine Great Park Certified Farmers’ Market from 10 AM to 2 PM. It’s the perfect weekend stop to grab a drink and enjoy the market’s lively atmosphere.

Get ready for the Splash-In Movie and Recreation Swim on Saturday, August 23, at William J. Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center, featuring an outdoor showing of Shrek.

  • Enjoy swimming, floating, diving boards, a water slide, and an in-water obstacle course starting at 6:30 p.m., with the movie after sunset.

  • Admission is $2.50 per child and $5 per adult

UCI Health Eye Mobile Brings Free Vision Care to Children Across Orange County

Clear vision is essential for a child’s learning and development, yet many families lack access to proper eye care.

  • Since 2015, the UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute’s Eye Mobile for Children has brought free screenings, exams, glasses, and referrals to underserved communities across Orange County, visiting preschools, TK sites, and community locations

    .

  • Funded primarily by donors, the program follows a six-step process—from initial vision screening to delivering glasses and specialist referrals—helping prevent developmental delays caused by uncorrected vision.

Evening Adventure Awaits: Hicks Haul Road Hike on Aug. 14

Join an Evening Hike on Hicks Haul Road on Thursday, August 14, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. in the Irvine Open Space Preserve. This 3.5-mile, level-3 difficulty out-and-back trek to scenic Loma Ridge features rock formations, native plants, and sunset views.

Enroll Early, Save More: Woodbridge Village Art School Special

Until August 31, the U Design School of Art at Woodbridge Village Center is holding its once-a-year fall presale.

  • Families can save $498 on a 9-month package for the 2025–2026 art, design, and science programs.

Irvine Animal Care Center Celebrates Successful Adoptions, August 4–10

From August 4–10, 2025, the Irvine Animal Care Center saw a successful week of adoptions with 12 dogs, 19 cats, and 1 rabbit finding their forever homes. Among the adopted pets were Wren, Canary, Dallas, Shadow, and many more. Additionally, one dog, Bubba, was sent to rescue, while six dogs and one cat were reunited with their owners.

UCI Women’s Basketball Eyes Another Strong Season with New Conference Schedule

The Big West has announced UC Irvine women’s basketball’s 2025-26 conference schedule, featuring an 11-week, 20-game round robin slate.

  • UCI opens on the road Dec. 4 at UC Riverside and Dec. 6 at CSUN during Bold Week, with the home opener Jan. 1 vs. Cal State Bakersfield.

  • Key home games include Hawai‘i (Jan. 10), UC Davis (Jan. 17), and Long Beach State (Feb. 19).

  • The regular season ends with three road games before the Big West Championships in Henderson, NV, March 11-14.

Two Arrested in Connection with Theft and Fraud Incidents in Irvine

In June, a wallet was stolen from a parked car at the Shady Canyon trailhead, and the thief used the victim’s credit cards for purchases at the Irvine Spectrum.

  • In a recent follow-up, the Irvine Police Crime Impact Unit (CIU) spotted the same man and a woman at Trader Joe’s in Lake Forest, where they targeted an elderly shopper, stealing her wallet and phone.

  • The pair was tracked to the Spectrum, attempting further fraudulent purchases, leading to their arrest.

  • Jose Antonio Poblete Velasquez, 57, faces charges of grand theft, elder abuse, burglary, and identity theft, while Claudia Sepulveda, 40, faces conspiracy, grand theft, and burglary charges.
