UCI Health Expert Shares Simple Tips to Help Support Healthy Vision

Nearsightedness (myopia) is becoming more common worldwide, and UCI Health pediatric ophthalmologist Dr. Donny Suh says both genetics and everyday habits can play a role. Children with nearsighted parents may have a higher risk, while factors such as increased screen time, prolonged close-up work, limited time outdoors, and urban environments may also contribute. To help reduce digital eye strain, Dr. Suh recommends following the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.
