Sessions West Coast Deli Celebrates 10 Years of Success in Irvine

Ten years ago, surfers Matt Meddock and Max Schlutz founded Sessions West Coast Deli, aiming to create a better sandwich with premium ingredients. Now with six locations, their Woodbridge Village Center spot is the busiest. Their top seller, the Summer Zephyr sandwich, combines fresh mozzarella, marinated tomatoes, basil aioli, and arugula on a French roll. The deli also offers popular items like their simple burger and Brussels sprouts. Schlutz draws inspiration from global food cultures for new creations, making Irvine a perfect fit with its vibrant, family-friendly environment.

Irvine Takes the Heat Off with Cool New Street Coating

Irvine is the first city in Orange County to apply DuraShield Solar Reflective Grey pavement coating, a new technology that extends the life of streets and reduces ground-level heat. The coating is being applied on San Juan and San Leon until August 9 as part of a pilot program. This innovative pavement helps lower surface and ambient air temperatures while protecting against UV and heat damage. Learn more at cityofirvine.org/coolpavement.

Essential Tips for a Safe and Injury-Free Summer

To avoid common summertime injuries:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking 6-8 glasses of water daily, especially for children and the elderly.

  • Wear proper safety gear like helmets and life vests for activities, and use sunscreen with at least SPF 30, applying it regularly.

  • Keep allergies under control by closing windows and using air conditioning.

  • Prevent foodborne illnesses by keeping perishable foods cool and washing hands frequently.

  • Protect yourself from bugs and pests by wearing protective clothing and using insect repellent; if stung by a bee, remove the stinger quickly and seek medical attention if symptoms occur.
