Irvine City Council Declines Additional Financial Audits Amid Projected $37 Million Budget Deficit

The Irvine City Council unanimously voted against conducting additional financial audits as the city faces a projected $37 million annual budget deficit by July 2028, potentially rising to $47 million by the end of the decade. Instead, officials plan to address the shortfall through $27 million in spending reductions and $10 million in additional revenue. Proposed audits of federal COVID-19 spending and the Great Park’s Swyft Cities gondola project would have cost $25,000–$140,000, depending on the audit. Council members opted to rely on existing financial reviews, prioritizing resources toward addressing the city's budget challenges while making financial records available for public review.

Halloween Safety Tips to Keep Your Cats Happy and Healthy

Keep your feline friends safe and comfortable during Halloween. Here are a few simple tips to help keep your furry companions healthy and safe.
Keep Candy Away: Chocolate and certain sweeteners can be toxic, while candy wrappers may cause digestive problems. Contact your veterinarian if your cat eats something unsafe.
Choose Safe Decorations: Keep pumpkins, corn cobs, cobwebs, and small decorations out of reach. Use battery-powered candles to prevent burns and fires.
Create a Quiet Space: Keep your cat in a secure, comfortable room away from visitors and loud noises. Soft music can help them relax.
Skip the Costumes: Costumes can be uncomfortable or unsafe for cats. Choose a festive collar or bandana instead.
Help Anxious Cats: If your cat becomes stressed, ask your veterinarian about calming products or other safe options.
