SR-55 Expansion Continues: What It Means for Irvine Drivers

The ongoing $505.7 million expansion of State Route 55, which runs through Santa Ana, Tustin, and Irvine, continues to impact local commuters with traffic jams and lane closures. The project, which began in August 2022, aims to add a general lane and carpool lane in each direction between the 405 and 5 freeways, with completion expected by 2027. While officials say the expansion will improve traffic flow, experts argue that added lanes only provide temporary relief before congestion returns. Irvine drivers can expect continued disruptions on both the freeway and surrounding streets, with lane adjustments and road narrowing affecting access points. The project also raises concerns about environmental impacts and the need for alternative transportation investments. Further expansion north toward SR-91 is set to begin in 2026, bringing more construction and potential long-term traffic challenges to the region.

7 Essential Tips for Treating Mono and Speeding Up Recovery

Mononucleosis (mono) can leave you feeling exhausted and unwell for weeks, but proper care can help ease symptoms and prevent complications. Since there’s no specific cure, treatment focuses on symptom relief and allowing your body time to heal. Follow these essential tips to manage mono effectively:

  • Rest & Sleep: Prioritize plenty of rest to support recovery.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink water, herbal teas, and clear soups to maintain hydration.

  • Pain Relief: Use over-the-counter medications like Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen for fever and sore throat.

  • Sore Throat Relief: Try throat lozenges, sprays, or warm saltwater gargles.

  • Avoid Antibiotics: Mono is viral, so antibiotics won’t help unless a secondary bacterial infection is present.

  • Limit Physical Activity: Avoid contact sports to prevent spleen rupture, a common complication of mono.

  • Monitor Symptoms: Seek medical attention for severe abdominal pain, jaundice, or signs of internal bleeding.

If you’re experiencing symptoms, visit Family Care Centers in Orange County for walk-in mono testing and treatment—open daily, including holidays. Reserve your spot today!
