Excessive Heat Warning Issued: Irvine Sets Up Cooling Spaces for Residents
The US National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Irvine, starting September 4, at 11 a.m. through Friday, September 6, at 8 p.m. All City of Irvine facilities will serve as cooling centers for residents and their pets. UC Irvine Celebrates Historic $343M Fundraising Year, Surpassing 95% of $2B Goal
UC Irvine raised a record $343 million in fiscal year 2024 as part of its Brilliant Future campaign, bringing the total to $1.9 billion—95% of its $2 billion goal. The campaign, which launched publicly in 2019 and ends in 2025, supports education, healthcare, and research. Significant contributions in 2024 include two $50 million gifts, boosting support for the biological sciences and cardiovascular services. UC Irvine Health Affairs saw a major increase in donations, and research funding rose by 33%. Over 100,000 donors have contributed to the campaign, advancing education, healthcare, and transformative research.

Cat, kitten, puppy, and dog adoptions are just $20, though puppies require a Puppy Wellness Program deposit. Marcus Lee Named Big West Freshman of the Week After Strong Soccer Performance
Freshman Marcus Lee was named Big West Freshman of the Week after scoring his first collegiate goal in a 1-1 tie against Vermont. Lee had five shots, with three on target, leading his team to a draw and a win over Mercyhurst. This marks the seventh time a UCI player has won the award since its introduction in 2021, following previous winners Agaton Pourshahidi, Brady Treinen, and Nolan DiCenzo.

Home Win for Irvine Valley Women’s Soccer: Freshman Star Megan Beal Leads 4-0 Rout of LA City
Irvine Valley women's soccer continued its strong form with a 4-0 home victory over LA City, improving to 2-1 on the season. Freshman forward Megan Beal led the charge with a hat trick, scoring in the 16th, 27th, and 48th minutes. Sophomore Jocelyn Quinonez added another goal just before halftime. Assists came from Kuuipo Laumatia (2), Samantha Ortiz, and Haley Flores. Goalie Sydnee Salamoff had a quiet day with no saves needed.

Crean Lutheran Football Dominates St. Pius X, Wins 56-14
Crean Lutheran High School's football team earned its second straight win, defeating St. Pius X 56-14. The Saints dominated early, leading 49-7 at halftime. Quarterback Caden Jones threw for 262 yards and four touchdowns, with Robert "Dash" Smith leading the receivers (93 yards, 3 catches, 1 TD). Multiple players contributed, including Ben Byszewski, Caleb Bey, and Drew Deese, each catching touchdowns. The defense excelled, with Mason McCullough’s tipped pass leading to a touchdown, and Carter Jones and Taurian Nash leading tackles. Kicker Connor Stephens went 7-for-7 on PATs. The Saints’ next home games are on Sept. 6 and Sept. 13.

Two Arrested in Irvine for Stolen Vehicle and Parole Violation After Police Pursuit
Irvine police located a stolen Subaru at a shopping center near Barranca and Millikan on Thursday night. The vehicle had been reported stolen the day before in Buena Park. Sierra Monroe Irick, 25, of Anaheim, was arrested for vehicle theft, while Juan Jesus Belman, 24, of Santa Ana, was charged with giving false information to officers and a parole violation. Both were taken to Orange County Jail.
