9,300 Acres Engulfed by Airport Fire: Air Quality Advisory in Effect

The Airport Fire has expanded to 9,300 acres and is moving into Riverside County, with no threat to Irvine. South Coast AQMD has issued an Air Quality Alert due to wildfire smoke in the area. If you smell smoke or see ash, stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, and use an air conditioner or purifier. Avoid strenuous activities. For more information, visit aqmd.gov.

Authorities Extend Gratitude to First Responders and Agencies Battling the Airport Fire

The Orange County Fire Authority team expresses gratitude for the support received as they work to protect communities affected by the Airport Fire. They acknowledge the dedication of the firefighters, law enforcement officers, and their families for their tireless efforts. Appreciation is also extended to partner agencies, including the Orange County Sheriff's Department, U.S. Forest Service - Cleveland National Forest, and CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department, for their ongoing collaboration and commitment.

Irvine Welcomes Sauced BBQ: Smoked Meats, Signature Sauces, and Big Flavors

Sauced BBQ & Spirits has opened at The Market Place in Irvine, serving up a variety of smoked meats, unique dishes, and signature sauces. Highlights include Carolina pulled pork, St. Louis spare ribs, and creative options like brisket egg rolls and a BBQ bánh mì. General manager Mike Keating emphasizes their fresh daily smoked meats and diverse menu, which includes Mexican and Asian influences. Popular dishes include the Dougie burger and the massive Dinosaur Beef Rib, available after 5 p.m. on weekends. Irvine Residents See Smoke from Southern California Fires, No Immediate Threat to the City

The Irvine Police Department has reported smoke visible across Orange County due to multiple fires in Southern California, but there is no current threat to Irvine. The Airport Fire is moving away from the city. IUSD is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with local authorities and will provide updates if conditions change. UC Irvine Women's Golf Secures Record-Breaking Win at Wolverine Invitational

UC Irvine's women's golf team claimed victory at the Wolverine Invitational at Talon Coves Golf Course, marking their 18th tournament win in program history and the first since 2017. The Anteaters set a new program record with an 11-under 853, finishing six strokes ahead of UC Riverside. Freshman Alona Avery led the team, placing second individually with a three-round score of 207, the third-lowest in UCI history. Freshmen Katherine Gerbing and Katelyn Kong also performed well, finishing 4th and tied for 8th, respectively. UCI will compete next at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, Sept. 23-25.

Juan Chantaca Named Big West Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week After Impressive Debut

Redshirt freshman Juan Chantaca was named Big West Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after finishing second among 116 runners at the Irvine Invitational, his first collegiate race. Chantaca completed the 8K course in 25:10.9, leading three UCI Anteaters to top-10 finishes. This is his first career award, and it's the second consecutive year a UCI athlete has earned this honor.

Three Arrested for Stealing Baby Formula in Irvine, Charged with Retail Theft and Burglary

Three people were arrested after stealing 29 cans of baby formula from Target in Irvine. Irvine police quickly responded and apprehended Genomaleny Zarzacordoba (32, Tustin), Kaitlyn Rose Stewart (22), and Joshua Isaiah Maldonado (31, Anaheim), who were booked for organized retail theft, burglary, and conspiracy. Both Maldonado and Stewart had outstanding warrants.
