Simple Ways to Ease Sunburn and Support Skin Recovery

Spending time outdoors is part of summer, but too much sun can lead to painful sunburns. Here are simple home care tips to help soothe mild sunburn, support healing, and recognize when it's time to seek medical attention.
Stay hydrated with water or electrolyte drinks to help replace fluids lost from sunburn.
Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer to reduce dryness and peeling.
Take a cool oatmeal bath to soothe irritated skin.
Avoid direct sun, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., while your skin heals.
Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat for added protection.
Use aloe vera gel to help cool and moisturize sunburned skin.
Don't peel peeling skin or pop blisters, as they help protect healing skin from infection.
Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications may help relieve pain, swelling, and itching when used as directed.
Seek medical care if you develop severe swelling, large blisters, fever, dizziness, nausea, dehydration, muscle cramps, or other signs of a more serious sunburn.
