Eight OC Firefighters Injured in Rollover Crash on Irvine Freeway
Eight Orange County firefighters were injured in a rollover crash on the 241 Freeway in Irvine while returning from battling the Airport Fire. Six firefighters sustained major injuries, and two had minor injuries. The crash occurred when their wildfire crew truck swerved to avoid a ladder in the road, hit a guardrail, and overturned. Seven firefighters were taken to hospitals by ambulance, and one was airlifted. The accident blocked traffic for miles, but no other vehicles were involved. The firefighters were part of the Santiago hand crews, returning after a 12-hour shift. OCFA Chief Brian Fennessy urged the public to keep the firefighters in their thoughts.
Firefighters Push Through Dangerous Terrain as Blaze Reaches Over 23,500 Acres
The Airport Fire has grown to 23,519 acres, affecting both Orange and Riverside Counties. Firefighters on the ground and in the air are working tirelessly to protect the impacted communities, facing challenging and dangerous terrain. Ground crews are focused on extinguishing the flames and mitigating hazards, while aerial support enhances these efforts. Despite the difficulties, crews are determined to keep the fire contained within its current boundaries.
