Irvine Barclay Theatre Hosts Hiromi’s Sonicwonder: A Fusion of Jazz and Innovation

Acclaimed jazz pianist Hiromi will perform with her electrified quartet Sonicwonder on Thursday, April 24, at 8 PM. Known for blending jazz, classical, and pop, Hiromi brings a virtuosic and energetic approach to improvisation.
A pianist from Japan and Berklee alum, Hiromi has played alongside jazz legends and graced top international festivals. Her new project promises a groove-driven, genre-defying experience.
The group includes Adam O’Farrill (trumpet), Hadrien Feraud (bass), and Gene Coye (drums).
Irvine Officer Assists Dog Left in Hot Car—A Reminder to Keep Pets Safe in Warm Weather

As temperatures rise, the inside of a parked vehicle can heat up rapidly—up to 20°F in just 10 minutes, even in mild weather. This poses a serious risk to pets and children left inside. Recently, an Irvine officer gave water to a dog left in a car; luckily, the dog was unharmed. Officers found the owner and discussed the situation. If you see an animal in a hot car, report it immediately.
Note: Some electric vehicles like Teslas have a "pet mode" that keeps the car cool—check for a dashboard message indicating this feature is active.
Easter Luncheon at Tanaka Farms Set for April 20 with Farm-Fresh Feast and Family Activities

Activities include family lawn games, photos with the Easter Bunny, an egg hunt ticket for each child, and visits with barnyard animals.
Reservations are required and seating is limited. Book now at tanakafarms.com.
Kalbi Social Club Now Open at Irvine Spectrum, Serving Modern Korean BBQ

Kalbi Social Club is now open at the Irvine Spectrum, offering a modern take on traditional Korean barbecue. Located near Regal Irvine Spectrum and Suite 529, this new dining spot blends authentic Korean flavors with elevated casual dining. Guests can enjoy tableside grilling and specialties like Kalbi (Korean-style short ribs) for lunch or dinner.

Three University High Seniors Named Top Scholars in National Science Competition

Three University High School seniors—Victoria Fang, Miles Hexun, and Victor Li—have been named among the top 300 scholars in the 2025 Regeneron Science Talent Search, a prestigious national science and math competition for high school seniors. Selected from nearly 2,500 applicants, each student will receive a $2,000 award, with an additional $2,000 going to University High to support programs like Science Olympiad.

Understanding Sleep Deprivation: Causes, Symptoms, and Health Impacts

Sleep deprivation can have serious health consequences, ranging from impaired focus and mood swings to increased risk of chronic illnesses like heart disease and diabetes. It happens when people consistently get less sleep than recommended—7–9 hours for adults.
Common causes include stress, poor sleep habits, and medical conditions like insomnia or sleep apnea.
Symptoms include fatigue, irritability, memory issues, and weakened immunity.
To improve sleep, establish a regular routine, limit caffeine, exercise, and manage stress through techniques like meditation or journaling.
If problems persist, consult a doctor, as underlying sleep disorders may be involved.
