Early Morning Fatal Collision on Jamboree Rd. – Investigation Underway

Last morning at 1:35 a.m., Irvine Police (IPD) and OCFA responded to a head-on crash on Jamboree Rd. south of Warner Ave. A black Hyundai Elantra was driving the wrong way and collided with a northbound vehicle. The Hyundai driver suffered serious injuries and later died at the hospital, while the other driver was unharmed. IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating. Anyone with info can contact Detective Joshua Balos at 949-724-7024.
Irvine City Council to Vote on Potential 4x Pay Increase

Irvine City Council will discuss a proposed pay increase at Tuesday’s meeting, potentially raising council members’ monthly stipend from $880 to $3,308—nearly four times the current amount. The stipend, unchanged since 2009, could be adjusted based on Senate Bill 329, which ties compensation to city population size. With over 300,000 residents, Irvine officials qualify for the highest tier. If approved, the pay raise would take effect after the April 2025 special election, increasing annual council compensation from $10,560 to $39,696 per member. A second vote will be required to finalize the increase. Other Orange County cities, like Fountain Valley and Brea, have also recently raised council pay, while Santa Ana voters rejected a major increase last year. The meeting starts at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
